2.0 out of 5 stars Difficult installation, poor instructions, not stable, February 25, 2008
This review is from: Easy Track RB1460-M 4-to-8-Foot Expandable Tower Organizer, Maple (Kitchen)
I am a pretty good DIY guy and have installed about 5 closet systems from different manufacturers in three different homes of ours. The "EasyTrack" system has to be one of the most frustrating I've encountered. I bought it because we are going to re-do all of our floors and I like the idea of not having the main supports rest on the floor so we can put hardwood underneath them. What a mistake!!!

1. The instructions are very lean on real information. For example, there are NO suggested measurements for the default 8' configuration. Even the suggested height of the track has to be calculated (height of the top of the shelf less 8.5").

2. Locating the vertical panels is a chore requiring endless measuring and re-measuring just to make sure you can put the track itself as much on the studs as possible. If you miss by just a little because of the toggles, your whole system is offline.

3. There are no suggestions on where to install the 2nd fixed shelf. I called EasyTrack customer service. They said "it's your personal preference". Well sorry guys but I don't install closet systems everyday. How about a SUGGESTION!! Nada. Zip.

4. They recommend you FIX the closet rods in place for "additional stability". Well that would be nice except you CAN'T fix them with the chrome rod holders that are included. Only the plastic ones -- and that requires drilling the rods. Not an easy task without a drill press.

5. So the side panels wiggle unless they are somehow fixed to the wall. Well hmmm, you can't get at the wall once you've installed everything so that's out. I'm probably going to have to jury-rig some additional cleats just to keep the whole mess stable.

Sorry folks but this seems like a good idea that's just not completely thought out. Maybe the pro installers (the manufacturer owns ORG) have the goodies to make this a cakewalk but the average homeowner won't.

I give it 2 stars only because it was reasonably priced. But next time, I'll probably buy a wire shelf system or a fixed system that's more intelligently designed. Ughh.

I have a second walk in closet I want do and some bookselves for my office. I highly recommend this product. It is strudy and as the name says easy.

Tools needed: a level, screw driver (flat and philps), saw and tape measure. Read installation instructions and enjoy your new old closet, too. Hope this helps.

Oh I also reseached and watched the video on [...] for complele info.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love this system - beats others hands down, December 23, 2009
This review is from: Easy Track RB1460-M 4-to-8-Foot Expandable Tower Organizer, Maple (Kitchen)
I first found this system 6 years ago when remodelling our lake cabin. Needed something I could customize to the available space, had lots of storage, but wouldn't break the bank. Ended up putting it in 2 closets there and 2 at home. I've used almost every option - drawers, shoe cubes, rods, shelves, tie rack, belt rack, etc. Put the first ones up as directed (yes, they do suggest a height for the support piece) then customized the next ones to a lower height, which fits me better. I've rearranged the shelves several times, and even re-designed the whole system moving rods & shelves & panels to a more efficient use (something you can't do with other systems). It's incredibly sturdy, with the fixed shelves giving it more stability, esp with the end panels. Unlike certain wire systems, it is versatile, changeable, and durable - it doesn't come loose from the wall.

I give it 4 stars only because the wire baskets on my older system have a flimsy roller track and can easily get dislodged. That was corrected on newer models.

2.0 out of 5 stars Glue residue all over products, February 16, 2010
This review is from: Easy Track RB1460-M 4-to-8-Foot Expandable Tower Organizer, Maple (Kitchen)
I got the packages for my product quickly but it seems to lack of quality control was why. I got two kits and several boxes of shelves. The kits had tons of glue residue (this is particle board with laminate over it) on the panels both on the seams and on the face of the panels where glue wasn't even applied. There was less glue on the shelves but still every box had glue residue on the pieces.
I contacted the company and asked for a resolution - they suggested a cleaner I could not find or said they would replace the products. I did not want to wait 3 weeks to ship the parts back and forth and still have glue all over the pieces (I had no confidence given there was glue on all the pieces). I bought some goo gone which worked okay but they refused to pay the $5 for the cleaning product (let alone the 3 hours it took).
Disappointing!!!
