4.0 out of 5 stars good introductory guide, February 16, 2001

I would definitely recommend this book to beginner uke players--Mary Lou explains what you need to know to quickly get started on playing your uke and actually sound as if you know what you're doing. Her tablature is easy to follow, so as well as being able to play chords, you can also choose to play the melody line--if you have two uke players togetherone can play chords and the other melody, and together sound quite melodic. This is definitely the uke book for those with no prior knowledge of music. The songs it contains are all well known standards, and you should quickly have them mastered--and that is my only complaint really--it's so easy, it leaves you wanting more...

This instruction book seems to be very clear in covering the basics needed to learn how to play the ukulele. There is an excellent story about how the uk was "invented" and the history is very interesting. My ten year old granddaughter was able to understand the instructions for beginning playing. I recommend this as the first book to learn about the ukulele.

4.0 out of 5 stars Let the fun begin......., February 15, 2001
By
Roy T. Cone (Seabrook, TX United States) - See all my reviews

Of all musical instruments.... the one that is the most fun is also the one that is easiest to play ---- The Ukulele. In a few moments.... you can get your uke in tune, and the fun process immediately starts. You learn a bit about music... (but not enough to get in the way).. Then here sings out the melody and the chords. Before long, we're doing strums..... and everyone thinks we are a musical genius. How about that? A musical genius!

Thank you, Mary Lou
