I am a cooking enthusiast who follows a plant-based diet and have for a number of years. I also collect cookbooks and have more than I would like to admit, most of which are vegetarian or vegan. I have never been a member of Sparkpeople, although I have heard of the site before, but I ordered this eBook after previewing some of the recipes, which looked tasty and healthy but easy to make (my current qualifications for cookbook purchases). I didn't realize that this was not only going to be an amazing cookbook but also an excellent reference book on various ingredients (such as beans, whole grains, veggies, fruits), why they are an important part of everyone's diet, the best ways to cook them, etc. The recipes are awesome - I have made about 10 so far and all are top notch yummy, low-calorie, well-balanced and easy to make with ingredients that are not obscure (try the tempeh chicken salad - it is unbelievable). And the menu suggestions at the end of the book plus budget-shopping tips are also incredibly useful. My only disappointment is that this eBook does not come in book form, because I know this would be the #1 used cookbook in my collection. So my only recommendation is for the author and publisher to make this book in paper form. eBooks are great, and I adore my Kindle, but cookbooks are much more effective in old-school form. 5 stars - a must have for any veggie OR any person wanting to eat healthier. The recipes are so good that even carnivores won't miss the meat!

This book is very well written and has tons of information on the ins and outs of vegan cooking. The author makes you feel like she's talking directly to you - very refreshing. I really appreciate that the recipes are relatively simple and have just a few ingredients.

If you're just starting on your vegan journey, it's likely you'll have some shopping to do for things that aren't in your pantry or fridge, but once you're stocked up I imagine you'll enjoy making several of the recipes. I'm not quite ready to go strictly vegan, but I am interested in more meatless meals - this book is a great entry into the can-be-confusing world of vegan cooking.

I just made Easy Bean Tostadas, an simple four ingredient yummy dish, and am looking forward to trying some new foods as well - Easy BBQ Tempeh and the Earth Burgers. It's nice to read some of the comments from the sparkpeople members who've successfully gone strictly vegan or have incorporated more meatless meals into their daily lives. A good overall value for the information you're getting.

Interesting book but has minimal indexing. You can't jump pages or access a recipe without going through a bunch of other recipes before. They need to fix that, and make it user friendly.

This cookbook is an accessible and conversational introduction to vegan cooking. I eat a semi-vegetarian diet today. This book taught me more about ingredients that I've seen in the natural foods area of the grocery store but haven't used much (quinoa, nutritional yeast, and farro, etc), while employing mostly familiar plant-based ingredients.

Features I like:

* 10 Easy Vegan Meals with variations - gets me in the right mindset for assembling meals.

* Links from recipe to the website - makes it easier for readers to link the recipe in the Kindle to the meal planner on the website for nutritional tracking.

* Most recipes do not rely on meat analogs.

* The book jumps straight into health and nutrition without wandering off into moral aspects of vegetarian and vegan lifestyles. The author lets ME worry about the WHY while showing me the HOW.

I love the mantra, "Reinvent don't replicate".

Some recipes are repeats from another SparkPeople product--"The SparkPeople Cookbook". Otherwise I would have given it a 5 of 5.

The day after I downloaded the ebook I spent the entire day (after a morning workout) reading it and taking notes. What a fantastic and informative book, definitely much more than a "cookbook". I have been vegetarian for nearly 7 years, but have always had trouble when I tried to take it a step further. I decided to start small (but huge for me) by eliminating cheese. I already do soy/alternative milk on my cereal, and cheese had been a fallback for most meals. I didn't realize just how much until the day when I decided to "cut the cheese" so to speak. There were probably 20 times I started to reach for cheese and had to stop myself.

I appreciate the section on eliminating cheese, and I do believe, as she says, that it will get easier. I also appreciate Ms. Romine having pieces from other sparkpeople users with their experiences.

She helped me realize that I can do this, and I will be so much better off for it.

I love cookbooks and am trying to eat healthier so i buy a variety of different types.I really enjoy the recipes in this cookbook because they are easy and delicious. My husband is Not interested in becoming vegetarian let alone vegan but even he liked some of these recipes . easy to follow and a wonderful book to add to your collection .

Stepfanie Romine is a writer and editor, yoga teacher and health coach who has lived--and cooked--on three continents.

With degrees in French and journalism, Romine began her career in newspapers, as a copy editor, business reporter and columnist. She worked for for six years and now stays busy doing copy editing and manuscript writing for the health and wellness industry.

A certified Ashtanga vinyasa yoga teacher since 2009, she is also an ACE-certified health coach with continuing education in holistic and integrative nutrition.

Her second book, "The Spark Solution: A Complete Two-Week Diet Program to Fast-Track Weight Loss and Total Body Health," was named to the prestigious U.S. News & World Report "Best Diets" list in 2014.

Romine and her husband, Sam, live simply with their three rescued cats in a treehouse in the North Carolina mountains. She enjoys hiking, running, herbalism, cooking and green living.
