1.0 out of 5 stars Not exactly a vegetarian cookbook February 14, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
So I was pretty excited to spot a free Kindle book called Easy Vegetarian Recipes, and downloaded it to my iPad Kindle app. Opened it up, scanned the table of contents. The first recipe is "Effortless Chili for Cold Days." It's cold out, I like Vegetarian Chili, let's take a look. What's this: "Optional ingredient: Cooked ground beef/turkey." Hmmm. That's a bit odd. Well, it is an optional ingredient, so I suppose that's okay. Weird, though. ... Oh, look at the end of the recipe, there's links to more recipes. Hmmm. "Scrumptious Pot Roast." "Southern Style Smoke Sausage." "Beef Stew." "Chicken Stock." Ooookay. Did I misread the title? Nope. That is definitely Vegetarian not Virginian or Victorian or ... anything that would make these selections make sense. I'm glad it was free, 'cause I'd be upset instead of amused if I'd paid money for this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy Vegetarian Recipes - for Kindle November 19, 2011
By Lauren
Format:Kindle Edition
This is really a wonderful little cookbook, created by the editor of Includes a fully linked Table-of-Contents, and also includes links to the website, directly to the recipes and the individual member who contributed the recipe. There are 12 recipes in all, and each includes nice clear pictures, and step-by-step, very detailed instructions (down to the tiniest details, which is almost over-kill on some recipes, but may come in handy for less-experienced cooks), with pictures for each step. Preparing less common ingredients include further detailed instructions (example: How to "salt and sweat" eggplant).

Most of the recipes also include links to the website, with related recipes.

Because the recipes include each step, the recipes (and photos) are spread over several pages, making it be possibly a little bit too many flipping pages back-and-forth. I noticed one of the recipes had a one-page "printer-friendly" synapses of the entire recipe, and think the entire cook-book could have benefited from this tactic. (This is the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 - would like to have all recipes in a "condensed" version as well).

Some of the recipes included are:

How to Prepare Scrumptious Caponata
Eggplant Parmesan
Fiery Pumpkin Somosas
Veggie Mexican Lasagne (Yummy!)
Easy Vegetarian Chile

5.0 out of 5 stars True to the Title November 25, 2011
By Carly
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
As a vegetarian, I'm always looking for interesting and fun recipes to try out. Often cookbooks will contain a bunch of the same-old same-old in vegetarian cuisine.

I bought this as a whim due to the free list price, and was glad to see that the recipes were unique and tasty-looking. I decided to try out the Fiery Pumpkin Samosas for thanksgiving and though they were very spicy (I think I'll lay back on the chiles next time for my own taste), the instructions were clearly laid out and easy to follow, and the links placed throughout were helpful. And true to the title, they were very simple and easy to make.

I can't wait to try the other recipes in this book. :)

Also, I hadn't noticed until I bought it, but I was pleasantly surprised to find it was constructed from instructables. I'm always happy to support such a great site. I'd love to see other books created by them.

1.0 out of 5 stars Blah January 28, 2012

Not very many recipes, some of them include meat, and some of them are repeated (really? how many versions of vegetarian chilli does one need?). As a vegetarian who cooks 6-7 nights a week this was a complete disappointment and uninspiring.

1.0 out of 5 stars Confused January 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I downloaded what claims to be a vegetarian cookbook and find that the first recipe calls for ground turkey. It was free, and may have been overpriced.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst Cookbook EVER! January 17, 2012
By Autumn
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is more of a picture book than a cookbook. They show a picture for every action they do. There's a picture of hamburger buns, then buns with the spread, then a picture of the buns with spread and mushrooms, then a picture with another ingredient, and so on. Some how there are pictures of people and babies too. This "cookbook" was very hard to use, I had to go through a lot of pages to find the next step or the next recipe. Terrible!

1.0 out of 5 stars One Star is Too Many! September 17, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Wow, where to begin. I've found some excellent Kindle cookbooks (of all types) in the past few months but this isn't one of them.

First off, the formatting in this eBook is so, SO bad!!! The photos are laughable. And of what...not just poor, grainy images of the recipes themselves, but ones showing someone pouring oil in a pan, cutting a piece off a hunk of cheese, a used knife on a cutting board...the list goes on and on. Filler with no reason for being there. If someone is this "challenged" in the kitchen that they need images like these to be included, I think you'd better be staying away from knives and the stove. ;<)

The recipes for the most part are just a bunch of ingredients thrown together in a pot and heated up. No real thought or work put in when it comes to proper seasonings, optimal preparation, etc.

One recipe I noted for Veggie Mexican Lasagna suggested beef/chicken/turkey as options. News flash: these are animal products, not vegetarian!

These might be easy recipes but tasty and memorable...NOT. Keep looking. There are much better choices to be had for vegetarian cookbooks.

1.0 out of 5 stars Needs to be simplified May 14, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The recipes are multi page when viewed on the iPad and really a pain to read. Things should be MUCH simpler.
