The book was written by Aviva Bar-Am, a former travel correspondent for Israel's English-language newspaper, The Jerusalem Post. Based on Landscapes, her much-acclaimed weekly column appearing in the Post, EasyWalks is written in a conversational, journalistic style. It contains history, legends, anecdotes, and occasional Biblical references. Included are nature walks, historic sites, roadside stops and scenic drives accessible to wheelchairs. Many of the trips are considered super-easy (level ground) and even more are on paved surfaces. New and old Jerusalem neighborhoods are included, as are Old Tel Aviv, Old Rehovot, Old Jaffa, and Old Haifa. For children there are bird safaris and playgrounds, a secret underground munitions factory, sand dunes, waterfalls and parks, lakes, and Amram's stupendous pillars. Parents will enjoy the sculptures and children the playgrounds along the "Sculpture Route" and all ages will delight in the unrestrained Jordan river along the Scenic Jordan Drive. History buffs can visit "Up to here bridge", and the off-the-beaten-track Bell Outpost or Joakim's palace. Museums, parks, picnic sites, nature trails, and overlooks are all included; in short, there is something for everyone, everywhere in Israel.
The book contains a chapter providing travel tips, as well as a glossary of common terms. Near the end look for the invaluable section listing recommended lodgings, and phone numbers every tourist should have. Sixteen of the nature walks, historic sites, roadside stops and scenic drives are accessible to wheelchairs and strollers. Special note is made of wheelchair-accessible restrooms and lodgings.
