Clearly presented, useful, very helpful in tutoring my non-speaking Lithuanian friends.,

This review is from: Easy Way to Lithuanian (Paperback)
Even though this edition is eleven years old now I have used it successfully in the past to tutor non-speaking Lithuanian friends how to converse in the language. While the Lithuanian language, one of the oldest LIVING languages in the world, is not an easy one to learn (since not only do you have to learn verb conjugation but also noun declension), with the use of the accompanying audio tapes one can learn simple phrases (albiet maybe spoken with an "American" accent) useful when visiting this Baltic country.
The book begins with a Brief History of Lithuania then goes into chapters on anything from useful phrases to use while traveling, at a song festival, in a Lithuanian store and in developing friendships that may lead to love relationships. There is a short version of a English-Lithuanian Dictionary (Angliskai-Lietuviskai Zodynas) at the end of the book. There is a considerable amount of time spent on learning proper grammar. I agree with another reviewer that I wish there were more texts teaching this very old and noble language but we have to work with what we have. All in all I DO believe this is an excellent resource and, as an American born of Lithuanian parents who spoke Lithuanian in her family of origin, I would highly recommend this book to anyone who would like to learn anything from simple phrases to becoming fluent in the language. |
