Satisfactory product, hardware is great, software is weak. Would be nice if clearer to explain only records on one channel at a time, even though you can view all 4 channels. Attempted third party software solutions, but can only get other programs to recognize channel 2 as a record input. For the price, makes an excellent one channel video capture. If they redesigned the software for 4 cam capture I would be 5 stars satisfied! Compatible with both my XP and Vista 2.0USB computers, not compatible with 1.0 USB.

[It never worked the seller was unable to communicate and i don't have the time to file a claim against every rip off con-artist here. BUYER BEWARE! DO NOT PURCHASE THIS ITEM.]

Ok i have recently discovered that this is not as bad as i thought. With no help from the manufacturer i gave up originally, i put it in my drawer and forgot about it, and then I'm like lets try it again. I hooked it up to my usb 2.0 hub and then i tried the Multiviewer software and no luck. Read the steps below if you use vista or windows 7.

1. go to the shortcut on your desktop or the program in C://programs/... and right click
2. then go to properties near or at the bottom
3. first click the tab at top reading compatibility
4. first select the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for"
5. then click the box under and make sure it says Windows XP can be normal or SP2
6. after you select Windows XP go to the bottom of the "Multiviewer Properties" window and then check the box next to "Run this program as an administrator
7. click apply at the bottom and then once apply has gone gray click on OK
8. try and run the program and it will work fine and ?'s send mail to minnin15@temp-mail.tk

1.0 out of 5 stars So close yet so far..., March 6, 2010

As others have said, s/w is weak. I bought this to upload my four outside cameras to a website. In order to do this, I need a constant filename. I had been using an ancient snappy w. snapcap s/w with a video switcher to upload to my website but the snappy started having problems. This device lets you view all four channels at once, and will save a jpg of the channels at a timed interval. However, you can't name this jpg what you want, it defaults to date/time format, no matter what. You can manually name a shot, but since I wanted a jpg at five minute intervals, this is too much manual for me. It will also not ftp automatically, but there's other free s/w to do that. Computer is a 1.2ghz pentium running XP. No other s/w except my weather station s/w runs on this so there appears to be lots of computing power for the app. Three *'s for this.

Update: Worked with limitations as stated above for two months, then suddenly died. Will not get recognized by XP anymore, another computer will not see it either. Because of the limited lifetime I lowered my review *'s.

Had to replace the Empia based capture dongle on my Debian Pogoplug V2 Pogoplug Media Sharing Device - Gray surveillance system. Saw reviews about complaints concerning accessing all inputs simultaneously so figured that dongle was a combination single capture with 4 input video switcher (I used to write capture software for Dazzle frame grabbers Dazzle Digital Video Creator DVC-90 Video Capture Device and Movie Maker, and worked for a video switcher manufacturer). For those not technically inclined "this means you can only get video from ONE input at a time", which for me was not a bad thing. Tested on Windows and not to impressed with picture but functional using the included software. Downloaded and compiled Easycap DC60 Linux driver and tested on my Debian Squeeze system and picture looked a lot better on Linux. This was after making sure it was Syntek based versus any other that some other "Easycaps" used. Tested it with xawtv and mplayer. Did the same thing for driver on Debian Pogoplug V2 and got better results than previous capture dongle. Also tried it on Archlinux Pogoplug V3 although slightly slower (processor and memory limitations). Wrote software to simulate 4 channel simultaneous feeds with TDM. Switcher a little slow, especially on 2 out of 4 inputs. Got the infamous green screen for a couple of frames after switch then resumption of video, so compensated for this. Fed stream output to "Motion" software. Did not want to rewrite this portion. I remember when the same functionality the Easycap provides, not too long ago, cost more than $200. Guess I could have purchased an IP Video 9100A Plus Network Video Server (Black) but all the hardware I used was slightly cheaper, about $48 total, and I have added functionality. All in all, a great little product for the price, especially for those technically inclined. If you did want simultaneous input use, buy a bunch of EasyCAP DC60 - USB 2.0 Audio/video Creator Capture High-quality Analog Video, although you can easily saturate your usb bus. A multiple frame grabber card would be better Avermedia Digital Video Surveillance System NV3000 and a system that can accept it.

DVR worked as advertised. Software was easy to use. Nothing fancy but a good product to get your feet wet with CCTV cameras. Be aware, you can view four cameras but it will only record one camera at a time.

This review is from: EasyCap Model 002 - 4 Channel USB 2.0 DVR Video Audio CCTV Capture Adapter (Electronics)
I purchased this DVR with great intentions and was absolutely dissapointed with the lack of instruction and customer support. It states that windows 7 is compatible do not be fooled it will not work with windows 7. I have made numerous attempts to locate and install drivers from both their website and the internet and still no luck installing the software on my computer. There is nobody to talk to if you need help with the installation or if you just have basic questions regarding the product. There is a forum on there website that is suppossed to help, I couldn't find any thing that helped. I cannot speak for other systems I am using a Dell Inspirion 17R with windows 7. This might be the perfect product for someone using an older operating system. The actual device itself seemed to be ok and I recieved my item in about 2 days however good luck trying to figure out the installation and software. If there is something I can say that would help the seller is that they must create a better website that is more user freindly and establish some sort of customer service to assist people with software and installation. And for the buyers, if you are running windows 7 probably will not install correctly. I hope this helps.

This product works as described. It was easy to install and work from first set up. I use it with Windows 7 and have not encountered any problems so far. If you have a need or desire to use video surveillance from multiple cameras this is a great tool. I highly recommend this product.
