Judging from the recipes included here, the Zismans apparently did not get an overwhelming response to their latest contest (they are the authors of The 50 Best Pizzas in the World, The 47 Best Chocolate Chip Cookies in the World, etc.). It would be pretty depressing to have to think of Mock Chopped Liver (made with canned peas), Gingersnap Burgers, and Chocolate Tofu Pie as among the "best Jewish recipes." There are many good Jewish cookbooks available, from Jayne Cohen's Gefilte Variations (see above) to Joan Nathan's classic Jewish Cooking in America (LJ 1/94); skip this one.

Anyone interested in authenic Jewish cooking should buy this informative book by one of the more prolific cook book authors. The recipes are interesting, some very typical and some with a nice spin to them. I recommend this highly to those who are interested in ethic cooking. It belongs on any cooks bookshelf.
