Hello. This is At the Amazon.com with your host and soon to be overlord, Movie Review Kid, commenting on the 1984 hit "Eat It" by Weird Al Yankovic. You know, I've reviewed lot of things: Films, Books, Video Games, Your Mama, but I've never reviewed a song. So, I guess this is some big step for me.
Anyway, this song is humongously funny. But I can't tell you why this cracked me up until I tell you the origin of Eat It:
Weird Al was known as a copycat. A parodier. A spoofer. And who else to parody but the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson. With the release of "Beat It" two years later, Weird Al knew just how to make fun of Michael's hit. He came up with a song and presented to the King. Strangely, Michael agreed to let Weird Al make a fool out of his song saying that it was "humorous." And boy, it was. Here are some of the lyrics (sing to the tune of Beat It):
How come you're always such a fussy young man
Don't want no Captain Crunch, don't want no Raisin Bran
Well, don't you know that other kids are starving in Japan
So eat it, just eat it
Don't want to argue, I don't want to debate
Don't want to hear about what kind of food you hate
You won't get no dessert 'till you clean off your plate
So eat it
Don't you tell me you're full
Just eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it
Get yourself an egg and beat it
Have some more chicken, have some more pie
It doesn't matter if it's boiled or fried
Just eat it, eat it, just eat it, eat it
Just eat it, eat it, just eat it, eat it, ooh
Your table manners are some cryin' shame
You're playin' with your food, this ain't some kind of game
Now, if you starve to death, you'll just have yourself to blame
So eat it, just eat it
You better listen, better do what you're told
You haven't even touched your tuna casserole
You better chow down or it's gonna get cold
So eat it
Hilarious, huh? Now I'm gonna tell you what's so funny about it. The way that Weird Al says "Eat It", he says it with a nasally voice that makes it sound funny. Also, he tries to imitate Jackson's dance movies but fails hilariously. NOTE: That was only in the music video. And in the m.v., when Weird Al bursts into the cafeteria, he hits a guy with the door. And there's also a part where they do a close-up of Weird Al's mouth, and man! does he need to brush his teeth. Also at the end, Weird Al gets these bulging yellow eyes, in reference to the ending of another Jackson video, Thriller.
