Book Description

Fresh and original diet book that teaches you how to lose weight easily, written in a fun, lively style. Eat Less Crap... is an entertaining collection of embarrassing self-confessions about food-guzzling that'll teach readers easy ways to lose weight. It allows for screw-ups because let's face it. we're human. Whether you want to lose five, 50, or 500 kilos - losing weight is easy once you have Sam's secrets. Five years ago Sam Pease was fat and frazzled. None of the popular diets appealed because they preached the same message: give up all the foods you love and exercise for an hour, three times a week. That was never going to work for Sam (she despises gyms and is a carb-junkie), so she had to find new ways to trim down. She watched weight-loss organisations, spied on slenderellas, followed fatties and developed a diet that allowed her to eat chips, cheese, and carbs. It worked. Within five months she'd lost 28 kilos, without stepping foot in a gym. Five years later she's still slim (and she'll never be fat again).Follow Sam's easy plan, and enjoy yourself at the same time. This advice is sensible and will result in genuine weight loss if you stick to Sam's advice. This is a diet book with a difference; a fresh and original approach to weight-loss.

2.0 out of 5 stars Meh...... July 15, 2014

I really, really wanted to like this book. Really, I did. But in the end, I had to force myself to even finish it. I think a good amount of the advice given is nonsense - like the 'standing up' whenever possible just seems ridiculous, and leaving half of your takeaways behind - really? Who in their right mind has the ability to do that? Especially knowing how expensive they are (here in NZ anyway). You'd be better off to just buy.... a smaller size perhaps?
I'm sorry but I really think someone like this author who put on weight during one particularly stressful period in her life, but who was otherwise slim, isn't really qualified to give weight loss advice to people who have struggled with their weight their whole lives. She was always going to get (and stay) slim again when her life sorted itself out. She reminds me of my Mum in many ways - a naturally slim woman who once put on a bit of weight (while waiting for a hip replacement), and as soon as she realised, simply adjusted her portion sizes and lost it. Just like that. And the weight stayed off. People like this don't really understand us 'yo-yo' weight up, then down people, and I think books like this can end up making you feel worse.
In the end,( in my humble opinion), I have come to the conclusion that the best things you can do for yourself are to:-

1. Accept yourself - as you are and stop trying to be something/someone you're not.
2. Eat everything - BUT in moderation (that old adage is so true), and watch your portion sizes.
3. Get off your ass and get some exercise. Seriously. Stop making excuses and just DO IT. And keep doing it, for the rest of your life.

These three things are guaranteed to have you at the weight you are meant to be at - which is most likely slim.

2.0 out of 5 stars good, until it got negative and judgemental February 11, 2014

I'm not quite sure why, but at about 60% through this book I began to intensely dislike this writer. I enjoyed it until then.

Some cool ideas about getting moving and staying active, eating less and eating what you enjoy. I don't understand what makeup, clothing, and making sure other people think you look amazing has to do with a diet. But i drew the line at her giving fashion advice the was clearly intended for people like her, for example, I've never seen and overweight pear shaped woman look fabulous in skinny jeans. I think it was about that stage that all the euphemisms for "fat" started to irritate me. I realised how the tone of the book has changed from upbeat and fun to excessively critical and in some places offensive.

Good for her if it worked, but I would have liked to seen her stay positive throughout the book and stick to examples of what worked for her rather than make sweeping generalisations about what makeup looks good on all women.

Oh, and if you're a grammar nazi don't read this book. The misspelling of "gawgus" and "feck" will probably irritate you more than it did me.

To lose 28kg in 5 months by sucking in your stomach, squeezing your butt and leaving a couple of mouthfuls on your plate!. She must have been a Takeaway addict beforehand. I have lost loads of weight by exercising and eating a well balanced diet. Ladies you need to exercise to strengthen your bones to avoid or reduce the impact of osteoporosis as you age. Don't bother with this book. I can't believe I was sucked in....
