Odd but worth it,
By Paulita Burns (St. Louis, MO USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eat Right For Your Baby : The Individualized Guide to Fertility and Maximum Health During Pregnancy, Nursing, and Your Baby's First Year (Hardcover)
Reading the other reviews, I can hear where other reviewers are coming from. It's true, this way of eating and exercising does not provide a one-size-fits-all approach, and often can seem odd. Dr. D'Adamo's Blood Type diet & exercise recommendations are explained in much more detail in earlier books. In particular, Live Right 4 Your Type would be a great introduction to the theory and science behind the Blood Type Diet (BTD). I see Eat Right 4 Your Baby (ER4YB) as a resource for folks who already have familiarity with the BTD and have found that it makes sense for them. I do wish that ER4YB included information regarding variations for non-secretors. As someone working towards getting healthy now, in anticipation of pregnancy in a few years, this information is very helpful to me, including in terms for maximizing fertility. I have lost 60 pounds in the last year from following these diet & exercise guidlines, and have seen a tremendous improvement in my energy, allergies, asthma, sinuses, and joint stiffness.

At least give it a scan at your local library...,
This review is from: Eat Right For Your Baby : The Individualized Guide to Fertility and Maximum Health During Pregnancy, Nursing, and Your Baby's First Year (Hardcover)
I perused this at my local health food store. If you already eat outside of the typical American diet and aren't opposed to meat/and dairy alternatives, you will find that you won't have to change much. I agree that I am slightly puzzled by a couple of the foods I must avoid, but most of it makes sense...NOT that I am happy about giving up corn and potatos! My parents are both O types,as well and my father and all his relatives have diabetes. Staying away from the wheat will keep me from that pathway, I hope. Do go to your library first and judge for yourself.

Infertility info alone worth the purchase,
By Mummo (Midwest, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eat Right For Your Baby: The Individulized Guide to Fertility and Maximum Heatlh During Pregnancy (Paperback)
Before I had read this book or been introduced to the "Right For Your Type" diet concept, I followed something very close to what D'Adamo advocates for my type. After 5 years of infertility, we conceived our baby daughter. Now that I have read the author's other books, I am not surprised to see that his recommendations can help infertile couples conceive and help those with recurring miscarriage.
I understand that carnivorous Type As and vegetarian Type Os will struggle with the diet. My encouragement is to read Live Right For Your Type first so that you actually get the science part of this. Then ask the many infertile women who have conceived after following his diet how "nuts" it is.

Excellent help for major issues: morning sickness, conception...,

I have bought no less than 4 copies of this book for myself and friends, and can't recommend it often enough. Never followed it to the letter, but as a general guide (which I do loosely with the whole Blood Type concept). My whole immediate family is Type A, though, so we have it easier than lots of families!
I first used this book when I was trying to conceive daughter #2. After the birth of dauchter #1, we had moved from CA to the east coast, and over time, my diet had morphed into many non-healthy choices for my Type A family. After several months of no results, I read this and changed my diet to follow the Type A plan more closely. In just a few weeks, we were pregnant. My next door neighbor was also trying to conceive her 1st baby at this time. After two miscarriages, I lent her this book - and to her surprise, she read that the combination of blood types between her and her husband was one that was prone to miscarriages. Imagine the relief of knowing that there was a real reason for this, not "something she had done" or wasn't doing. She birthed her first baby 10 months after making some changes to her diet based on this. Another friend was having terrible morning sickness, and following the traditional advice of "experts" was actually amaking her feel worse, not better. Once she found her type in here, she was able to curb the sickness and get through her first trimester by EATING and actually absorbing the nutrients her baby and body needed. Admittedly, the contents of this book can appear odd to those not familiar with the concept, and I've had many "western" medicine doctors pooh-pooh this all. But the fact is, no one can explain the results we've had in any "traditional" manner. I'm here buying copy #5 tonight!

I was a little disappointed, the reason i purchased this was to see what they had to say about infertility. There was only a page or two. Buy only if your interested in this concept when you are already pregnant

Found book very helpful and informative,

I think this diet may be easiest to follow for Type O blood types. I found the diet to be very similar to what I am eating now with a few changes. Actually small changes. I think one of the greatest challenges for the Type O blood types is the need to eat meat and the aversion to it for some during pregnancy. I like many of the recipes and plan to incorporate them into my diet. As with anything and any book you read take what you can from it and use the info that helps you. Each person is different no matter what type blood they may have. I even read a comment from someone regarding pregnancy and eating according to blood types and although Type 0 - while pregnant she was more drawn to the foods of the child she was carrying's blood type. I really think our bodies guide us to what's best and what's most needed. This was a book I borrowed from the library but then wound up getting my own copy.

I agree that this particular book does not explain the larger concepts of the diet as well as his other books, but I find this book the most useful of the blood type diet books because it is laid out much better. I do not follow the diet in a strict way. I try to eat more beneficial foods and avoid the avoid foods, with plenty of exceptions along the way. Eating this way, I avoided many of the discomforts of pregnancy, and I had a truly remarkable birth and recovery. Furthermore, my baby has not yet showed any signs of digestive discomfort or random fussiness. I personally attribute this level of well-being to the eat right for your baby program. When I eat too many avoid foods, I start to feel it, and then I go back to avoiding those foods more. I highly recommend this book!I have always eaten pretty healthy, but as I hit my thirties my digestive system started to have lots of problems. As someone not interested in dieting, I first dismissed the blood type diet when my Mom began pushing it on me. But as my digestive problems got worse, I was willing to try anything to avoid taking a bunch of medicine. Loosely following the blood type diet radically changed my quality of life. I got pregnant just a couple of months later and followed it through pregnancy, especially in late pregnancy. I ate the foods recommended in preparation for labor, and the nurses and doctors were shocked at how well and quickly my body recovered. Though I agree with a number of the critiques of this book, I have now bought copies for several friends who are planning families soon.

The book was exactly what I was looking for. Since the day my son was born I have been searching for exactly what it is I am supposed to be eating. With my pregnancy over and my "normal" body months (maybe years) away I needed to know how to eat. This book was all that and more. Following the guidelines for our blood type has worked tremendously. I HIGHLY recommend this book to all parents - nursing, pregnant or trying to be.
