Inspiring and well written,
By A Customer
This review is from: Eat and Stay Thin: Simple, Spiritual, Satisfying Weight Control (Hardcover)
Joyce Meyer writes from the heart. She emphasizes the concept of eating properly, rather than dieting. This is not yet another "fad-diet" book. Instead, it is practical and inspirational advice on eating in the way that God intended for us.

Not much of a help,
By A Customer
This review is from: Eat and Stay Thin: Simple, Spiritual, Satisfying Weight Control (Hardcover)
I love Joyce Meyer, she has helped change my life. But, this book was a big disappointment.Joyce has obviously not had a problem with binge eating or a thyroid disorder. She only needed to lose about 20 pounds and was never overweight in her childhood. She's really not a good resource on this topic. Buy all her other books, but not this one.

Divine Diet Directions,

Joyce Meyer has been teaching Biblical truths since 1976. While she may not be a qualified dietician this book does give a lot of good Bible based instructions.
This book is broken down into 2 parts as follows: PART 1: Freely Eat This section has 3 Chapters. In this section she teaches that firstly you must assess your eating habits and find out why you eat the things that you eat and the quantity and frequency. More than likely there is a root cause for the things that we do. Eating freely must be a Spirit led activity, governed with temperance and self control. It is made clear that we do not have a spare body available, therfore we must take good care of this one. In order to serve the Lord properly, we must be in good health, and do those things that will keep us in good shape. PART 2: 12 Reasons Why People Overeat: - Lack of Knowledge - Lack of a Balanced Diet - Lack of Exercise - Bad Eating Habits - Unbalanced Metabolism - Spiritual Unfulfillment - Emotional Unfulfillment - Loneliness, Loss and Boredom - Preoccupation with Food - Impulse Eating - Passive Eating - Lack of Self-Denial In these 12 chapters, she gives a lot of practical advise as to how to overcome these areas of potential eating and health dis-orders. At the end of it all, we must be responsible and exercise self control concerning the things that we eat and how much. Our life-style and not fancy diets is what will make long term changes in our lives. We must also be mindful of the fact that as we get older, we must also change the way that we eat.

Learned Something but not what I was hoping for,
By A Customer
This review is from: Eat and Stay Thin: Simple, Spiritual, Satisfaction Weight Control (Hardcover)
I did like this book for other reasons than its ability to help me look at food differently (I can easily gorge myself on cookies... even after reading the book). BUT Joyce mentioned how she gave up caffiene because it was hurting her body and not helping. She also mentioned in the book about The Tree that Adam and Eve were not to eat from. Out of those two subjects she mentioned it made me think of how people are always saying "If I were Adam or Eve, I wouldnt have eaten the forbidden fruit." So I challenged myself to give something up that "hurt" my body and wasnt good to eat anyways. ICE CREAM was my "tree". My body doesnt like ice cream though I LOVE IT. It makes me cramp... ANYWAYS my point is... though the book did not take me where I was hoping (ie a better view of food) it did take me to where I have given up my passion for Ice Cream for good. Its been 3 months or so and i have no desire for it. So maybe the book did help me. I dont really know!

Great Info, but pretty much same as her CD,

Pro: The information was very helpful, and got right to the heart of the overeating problam! My weight loss efforts have been ongoing for years, and I have been a classic example of the proverbial "yo yo" until I finally realized I couldn't do it in a vacuum. I needed to accept that it is part of God's plan for us to treat our bodies well and eat healthily. Crash diets might work for a time, but inevitably will fail because the weight comes back! Although most of the book was plain common sense and no earth-shattering revelations, Joyce expressed the information in her inimitable "get to the point" manner in plain language. I never had much luck with "will power", but I'm doing pretty well with "God power" so far!
Con: I already own a 1999 Joyce Meyer CD "12 reasons why people overeat", which contains pretty much the same info! I don't mind so much and might have bought the book anyway, but felt ripped off that they recycled the same info with a different title without warning us before we bought it! Bottom line: My recommendation: Buy one or the other, but not both - unless you have a reason to want or need the info in both media!

Joyce Meyer's Eat & Stay Thin,
By
This review is from: Eat and Stay Thin: Simple, Spiritual, Satisfaction Weight Control (Hardcover)
This book is informative, and was written in Joyce Meyer's usual down to earth layman's term style of writing. I like this because she makes it easy for people of almost any reading level able to learn from the way she presents her material.

I love Joyce's sensible, reasonable approach to weight loss. Very practical yet not too strict. I also recommend Stormie Omartian's book Greater Health God's Way.

Great book!,
This review is from: Eat and Stay Thin: Simple, Spiritual, Satisfying Weight Control (Kindle Edition)
This is a wonderful book. I have read it many times and passed it along to people over the past few years. If you are seriously ready to make a change, this book is for you. It all starts with the heart and realizing what God has in store for you and your life. His will is for us to have a healthy and whole body. Not one plagued with sickness and disease. Being overweight is literally being enslaved or in bondage to food. This book will teach you how to look to the Holy Spirit in order to break free from the bondage that hinders you from living the life He has in store for us.
