I was a little disappointed that this revised for 2013 version just seemed to be information from the other books in the series compiled into this book. I felt the grocery store chapter especially showed the same products from other books. I do enjoy the restaurant comparisions and feel they are quite eye opening. Overall I would not recommend this book if you have read all the other eat this not that books as there is not very much new information. However if you're new to the series I think you will enjoy and learn a lot.

I purchased three of this series of books and read them all completely. I learned a lot and have implemented the knowledge gained in my purchases at the grocery store and in my recipes. Everyone should read these! I have lost FIFTY pounds, so far, just by purchasing and preparing food in the suggested methods.

This book is the same as previous years. It is not worth a penny if you own the 2012 version. They make all the same suggestions, I thought I grabbed the wrong one. They are out of ideas and I doubt we will see anything new in their books in the future. Only buy this if you don't own any other ones.

The "Eat This Not That" series of books are sort of like the picture books of the dieting world. The 2013 offering is heavy on eye-catching images and info graphics and mercifully lightweight on dense text. I've very successfully been following Weight Watchers throughout this Fall, and I couldn't use "Eat This Not That" as a strict diet-guide, however it offers numerous insights into everyday foods and their relative diet-friendliness.

The book provides practical and immediately actionable advice on food choices at popular restaurants and at the supermarket.

Buy this book if:
> you're dieting and would like some extra easy-to-follow guidance on smart food choices;
> you're looking for ways to eat smarter;
> you're looking for simple advice on making smarter food choices for your family.

Extra weight -- it sneaks up on you. Daily overeating -- eating that actually feels normal -- easily adds one or two pounds of fat to your body weight a month. That's twelve to twenty-four extra pounds a year! No wonder we seem in the mirror to be getting fatter and fatter. When did it happen? Gradually -- over months and years. In which case, something like Get Fit in Bed: Tone Your Body & Calm Your Mind from the Comfort of Your Bed can be helpful -- especially if you're REALLY stuck in bed for whatever reason.

That's where this book comes in. And this isn't rocket science. Basically, you are given multiple restaurant and eating-at-home options -- and the best option is highlighted. Eat that, don't eat that. Just like it says on the tin. The calorie amounds are indicated, so you can keep track. While it can be sad to choose the lower-calorie item suggested, the authors do a reasonable job of selecting a tasty alternative.

The nutrition advice is decent, and the section about kids' eating is helpful, indeed. (Kids are picky eaters -- any help is appreciated.)

Overall, this book is a win. While some of the restaurant chains covered are not available nationwide (and many others are not covered at all in the book) the weight-loss information in this book is covered in a simple and accessible way. It makes that unholy activity -- calorie counting -- bearable and tasty. Recommended.

I saw this book at my gym and I flipped through it and like how it looked, so I ordered it. It's got a lot of really good information, although I wish it was even more inclusive and had better explanations. For example, in the drink section there is one drink on the "Drink This" side in which all the calories and fat information is exactly the same as one on the "Not That" side. I can't figure out why one is worse or better than the other. Other than that, it's a great quick reference book.

Like other reviewers, I was surprised and disappointed to find that the new 2013 edition is little different from the 2012 version. Not much new info or product analysis. Had I known, I wouldn't have bought it. I'll be giving away this book to a friend I've just introduced to ETNT.

I did not realize this entire book was dedicated to choosing the "best" of two horrible choices. Not sure that choosing one overly processed fast food atrocity over another is even worth the trouble. Reading this book certainly wasn't.
