dont listen to other review on here, the guy obviously wants the same music over and over and over again...ive listen to guttermouth since they released friendly people and ive seen them rise and fall and rise again.... this isalbum is a great throwback to the good 'ol days of musical monkey and full length lp...but also adds tighter drum work and much cleaner guitar and bass then thier other albums....sure the album isnt perfect tracks like "second dui" get annoying, and mark does sound older now(he just cant quite hit the super high notes anymore) but an amazingly offensive and fun album to listen to.. it even has the hardest fastest song the band has ever produced "ticket to quebec" its even faster than "bbb" from gorgeous somehow...thsi album is NOT for fans of covered in ants or gusto. and the "political" song on this album is not even really all that political. guttermouth has had at least one song on each album where they make some obscure reference to politics as if only to make fun of all the "punkers" who think they know politics. this is one damn fine album. great mix of old style with new. cant wait for the next one.

guttermouth starting over,

its a hard thing to do starting a new punk band thats been around for 15 years but they manage to do it with "eat your face"...take in account the last 3 albums ......"gorgeous" awesome fast hard skate punk at its peak that cant be topped!!! only a band with a decade behind thier belt can have an album this good right?!?!?.....enter "covered in ants" great soft-core punk album a step back yes but grown up riffs with more mature lyrics...which many g-mouth fans hate considering we love this band just for the testosterone alone....good stuff but a step back AS EXPECTED....here comes "GUSTO" an album that even guttermouth themselves refuse to admit they made......honestly not a bad album once ya get beyond the pop punk and into the true 80's synthe that makes"gusto" well written material that should have came from a side project rather than guttermouth........finally we get to "EAT YOUR FACE!!!" true to its name this album will blindside ya with great lyrics and fast beats that can only be done by the most polished(but still sloppy) and influential new-age punk band of all time....anyone who loved gorgeous and before are called back to the unforgiving and ludacris lyrics of mark "half-empty" atkins and just honestly great punk noise that kicks ass all over "nofx" and "the dead milkmen".......its the rebuilding of a foundation....not thier best album but just like "full length LP" its just a re-start. everyone band needs a jump-start at one point and guttermouth did just that. C'mon kids, don't be so hard on these snot-nose punk stalwarts.
They rock, maybe not as tuneful and melodic as they once were, but if you dig Gusto and Covered with Ants, you'll like this. NOFX's kid bro' racks true with many songs here and the last track is hilarious 'hot dog'........... I love it....

I'm just getting into this band's discography in reverse chronological order starting with Shave The Planet which I love, and I think this album is on the same level as it while none of their older ones are. I think with this album they realised they had nothing left to prove so they didn't try very hard and inadvertantly made their first punk album that actually goes against the punk rock establishment, adding a bit of a Mucky Pup/Scatterbrain type influence to the standard Nofx/Bad Religion/Descendents style punk they played before. The vocals for one thing, Mark had never sounded this cartoony before, almost daring you to think he's a moron. Even though the guitar parts are never played in a way that is going to get any credit for it there is clearly a technicality and diversity that they hadn't displayed before. It's sloppy because he's playing below his abilities, rather than in the 90s where it sounded like the guitarist was really trying to do his best. Maybe it's a different guitarist, I dunno, but the whole underachiever philosophy of this album to me ends up packing a more genuine punk punch than they ever managed before.

This CD is really not that bad. Yes, Guttermouth does try to go back to their old Musical Monkey style, and they do succeed... sort of. This CD has fast songs with pop punk hooks, and they are for the most part pretty good. If you want a CD that sounds good and is enjoyable, check this out. If you want to be "punk rock" and be musically narrowminded, look elsewhere. Good songs: wasted lives, next faux mohican, season, NRAA. keep it real, yo.

Back to the Basics Punk Guttermouth is Known For,

Guttermouth is one of the fastest and hardest pop-punk bands around. This album displays their amazing talent. With their last two albums, Covered in Ants and Gusto, the band took a different direction with their music and it didn't go that well. But finally, we have a Guttermouth album that the old school fans will still enjoy. Hope A.F.I. changes their pace on their next album (even though they probably won't)!

This "return to their old style" from guttermouth is very dissapointing. sure, its better than gusto (although that's not a great achievement) and even about half the tracks on covered with ants, but it still sucks. this may sound a bit predictable, but i reckon this album sounds exactly like a band who used to be good, but their last couple of cd's didn't sit well with their fans so they're trying to get back to their roots, but no matter how hard they try they're never going to match musical monkey, gorgeous, friendly people or their full length LP. you can hear them trying too hard. and any song that relates to politics (party of 2) does not fit this band, satire or not. basically, i can't see who this album is intended for. anyone over the age of 18 will find this cd lame (especially when brilliant bad religion and descendents albums have been released in the same year), and anyone younger than that who may find guttermouth slightly amusing, go and buy musical monkey or full length LP coz they're a lot faster, funnier, offensive and basically better. all guttermouth need to do is look at their live set which consists of mainly old crowd favourites, and they will realise that their new material is just not worth releasing. anyone who thinks that this is guttermouth returning to their old style obviously haven't listened to their old albums properly, coz it's not even close to that.
Are You Serious? (add on 17/8) ok now i know that i already posted a review on here but i simply can't believe what i'm reading in some of the other reviews... "most polished and influential new-age punk band of all time"??????? this one is simply a joke. guttermouth go out of their way to be deliberately un-polished, and when it comes to listing off more influential punk bands, about a million other than guttermouth spring to mind. and then we go to the next quote... "kicks ass all over nofx"????? i would have thought nofx were one of the most influential punk bands of all time considering that there are so many rip-offs of them. who wants to be guttermouth? their chord progressions are incredible simple, they use very little melody and their lyrics could easily be written by any bored, dirty minded 14 year old. "Guttermouth is one of the fastest and hardest pop-punk bands around"??? yeah right. first of all, this is not "pop-punk". it is not mainstream. secondly, it's not that fast, or that hard. even their old stuff is not that fast or that hard. strung out, for example, are a hell of a lot faster and harder than guttermouth and i've heard them incorrectly labelled pop-punk also. "This album displays their amazing talent." ask guttermouth if they think they have amazing talent! they've proud of the fact that they don't. if you guys actually listen to their music you will hear the same chord progression repeated over and over and over again. it's not that difficult to write or play. and they make it this way so they can get smashed before every show and still pull it off, because it's too easy to stuff up!! now guys i know you like guttermouth, and i like guttermouth as well. they're a light hearted, fun punk band and their lyrics make you laugh. they are entertaining live and their CD's are not bad. but some of the other reviews are a bit over the top, don't you think? saying guttermouth is the hardest, fastest, most polished, influential and talented punk band of all time is just ridiculous. this whole reviewing system is to give people an idea of what they are about to buy, and i swear that they will be very, very disappointed if they go by what you guys have written on here about this release. and don't get me wrong, i don't hate this album - it's not that bad really. it's just nothing like their old stuff and when they come out and declare that they are going back to their roots, they better get it right coz this CD falls a mile short and therefore is disappointing. i don't want to hear the same stuff over and over again, i just don't want to listen to a mediocre try hard CD when i could be listening to something a hell of a lot better!! even if that is a different guttermouth CD. so guys, lets just calm down a bit shall we? i know you're excited coz you listened to their new CD and it doesn't suck anywhere near as much as their last one, but that doesn't make them the most influential new age punk band of all time. they're not even a new age band at all, considering they've been around for 15 years. lets all just get a bit of a grip on reality, ok? for new time guttermouth listeners, go and buy musical monkey, then full length LP, then friendly people, the gorgeous, then teri yakimoto, then eat your face or covered with ants, and don't buy gusto. if you're not new to guttermouth, aren't you sick of them buy now? sorry this review was so long!!!

A very average album.,

This album reminded me of the reasons that I started listening to Guttermouth. The F-it attitude, the.... well F-it attitude. Their last two albums truly sucked, if you liked them I don't know what to say. This album has hints of Friendly People, Full Length, Musical Monkey, Teri Yakamoto, and Gorgeous. The only problem is that it isn't that good. It kind of reminds me of the last two Matrix movies. The first one was great, the last two left you feeling empty.
If you are a fan of Guttermouth this album will inspire you to listen to your old Guttermouth albums. Actually I can save you some cash, instead of getting this album just listen to some of your old Guttermouth. Listen to the samples and move on.

I honestly was the biggest Guttermouth fan on earth. My most cherished high-school memory was singing a verse of "1,2,3, SLAM!!" with Mark onstage in Arizona. For God sakes thats enough of these guys. They should have stopped after Gorgeous. They sound and look just as ridiculous as the Beastie Boys. A bunch of drunk 50+ year old men wishing they were still 20 years old playing on Venice Beach.
