5.0 out of 5 stars 'scuse me while I puke and die, February 25, 2005

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Eat Your Paisley (Audio CD)
I remember liking this album (this band!) a lot 10 or 15 years ago while I was a smart-alecky high school kid. Many of my friends didn't agree, told me the Milkmen were stupid and immature, and that I should get into something serious, like Nine Inch Nails, or something equally melodramatic. Like a sucker, I figured they must be right and slowly but surely moved away from the Milkmen to pursue "serious" music. But now that I'm more or less an adult, all I can say is that if anything, this music is better than ever to my ears. It's explosive and sincere, yet corny and jangly at the same time. It IS that garage-y sound that people are nowadays spending way too much money trying to find. The Milkmen were keeping it real long before "kaypin' it rayo" became an excuse to act totally fake. They just ARE what they sound like: smart, bratty, hilarious, goofy kids having fun. This album in particular has two of my favorites: "Beach Party Vietnam", and the IMMORTAL "Thing That Only Eats Hippies". But there's much more to Eat You Paisley than a few hit tunes; every song on here has the awesome punk rock bark of Rodney Anonymous- Bitchin' and Hollerin' about god knows what. All, that is, except "KKSUCK2" and "Vince Lombardi Service Center" which are instrumentals. Now I don't know if this is one of their best, I didn't used to think so, but I just listened to the whole thing with an ear-to-ear grin the whole time. So there. Get it and be wowed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cookin' hot dogs with napalm..., February 3, 2002
By
High Y (Charleston, SC United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eat Your Paisley (Audio CD)
I first heard The Dead Milkmen in 6th grade and have been a rabid addict ever since. That said, I have give EAT YOUR PAISLEY the dishonor of "Worst Dead Milkmen album," though it's probably better to say "Least Awesome Dead Milkmen album" since this band is so cool. It still gets 4 stars (though all of their other albums get 5). The raw teenage punkiness of BIG LIZARD IN MY BACKYARD, still evident in shining tracks like "Moron" and "The Thing That Only Eats Hippies," was for the first time giving way to the eccentric humor that would be better developed in their future albums. "Where The Tarrantula Lives" is an example of this eccentricity right on the mark, while "Swampland of Desire" is a total disaster. The bottom line is, if you're a real Milkmen fan, you shouldn't be able to survive without crucial cuts like "Beach Party Vietnam" and "Moron," so you have to get this anyway... just don't expect to listen to it as much as BEELZEBUBBA or BUCKY FELLINI. If you don't know this band, start with the 2 albums mentioned above instead, or the "Death Rides a Pale Cow" compilation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Melodic Humor, April 3, 2005
This review is from: Eat Your Paisley (Audio CD)
Although not as raw as Big Lizard In My Backyard, this 1986 sophomore album has some of my favorite Dead Milkmen songs. Earwig is a great sarcastic song, and Moron hinted at what was to come with 1987's Instant Club Hit. The Dead Milkmen help show people reality.
