Todd J. Pesek, M.D. is a holistic physician and published scholar who specializes in disease prevention and reversal toward longevity and vital living.
He is in private practice in northeastern, Ohio, and is co-founder of group medical practice Great Lakes Health Institute of Lyndhurst, Ohio, which focuses on preventive, integrative, holistic healthcare. Dr. Pesek is also a tenured Health Sciences Professor at Cleveland State University, Cleveland, Ohio, where he teaches, researches and serves in multiple capacities, including as founding Director for the Center for Healing Across Cultures. In addition, he is founder of leading organic Superfoods and herbals companies Dr. Todd's Superfoods and Earth Healers, and author of Eat Yourself Super, Morgan James, 2012.
Dr. Todd was raised in the mountains of Appalachia in rural Pennsylvania and embraced his calling of holistic health and wellness from an early age. His passion and purpose began in the woods; gathering comfort and learning truth from his elders and the Earth. These adventures blossomed into extensive study and collaboration with traditional healers and holistic health practitioners in places as far away as India, Peru and Belize. His goal is to shed light on holistic health and wellness through timeless healing traditions that have long helped us maintain personal health and wellness, and can help us stay healthy and filled with vitality today. Dr. Todd received his medical doctorate from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, and completed his training in Medicine at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, St. Vincent Charity Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio.

This book is such an amazing compilation of information...........Dr Pesek is very concise and impactful regarding what it takes to have true health and wellness today. We are what we eat and as long as people keep searching for health in a prescription med bottle or even vitamins and supplements true vitality will continue to be elusive. This book is also full of fabulous great tasting recipes which have been well beyond my expectations. Highly recommend!

Dr. Todd has provided a great resource for the 'why's' and 'how's' of eating healthy. He provides current research as well as time-honored wisdom. He speaks as an old soul guiding us to a healthier, thus happier, way of living. The charts and guiding principals are easy to follow. The receipes have available ingredients and are truly yummy. I have a ton of diet/nutrition/cook books on my bookshelf but this one is still in the kitchen!

Although at least 75% of the health problems in the USA are preventable, we don't seem to be doing much. I'm not sure how much of this is because of being hypnotized by advertising vs. not having the information. This book will at least help with the latter, maybe even some with the former. Rare in terms of today's medical field, Pesek focuses on prevention rather than curing problems that have already gotten out of control.

I really like how this writing is clear but not dogmatic. For example, instead of just saying everyone should always eat only organic food no matter what, it lists which vegetables are most important to get organic, which tend to store toxins in the parts that we eat and which don't.

And blending ancient, shamanistic approaches with the most modern medical research, this book gives practical advice we can use every day. I wouldn't only say that this is a good book to read, I'd say that it's an important book to read.

Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
A couple of nuggets here but also a bunch of unsubstantiated claims. Before recommending supplements (like cat's claw and maca) it would be nice to see some evidence that they are beneficial. I do however, like Pesek's approach in the book.. He realizes not everyone is going to adopt a strict plant based super foods diet so he recommends that readers add what they can with a goal to keep adding. The superfoods pyramid is also a useful concept. I haven't tried the recipes but several of them look good. Hard to rate these kind of books it depends on your starting level of knowledge and what you are looking for ... I have a fair amount of knowledge on diets so not much new here for me and thus the 3 star rating.

Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This book is easy to read but not easy to follow. The author is intent on eating as close to nature as possible with a huge emphasis on greens, vegetables and fruit. No sugar, very little carbs and meat. Recommends supplementation. Very passionate. Includes recipes. After eating this way for about 3 months, no big changes in our health, but we will continue. After all, Rome wasn't built in a day.
