3.0 out of 5 stars Good scale I guess
This is my first digital scale, seems to be ok but I dont know that I truly trust it! This scale seems to be overly sensitive, I had read that it must be used on a hard floor and I figured I was all good as my workout room has a pergo floor, nope even pergo has enough give in it to throw this sensitive thing into false readings! I finally moved it into my small bathroom...

The scale before my purchase of this product was a heavy, bulky glass scale. Sure it looked nice, but due to small bathroom space, I couldn't leave it in one spot and still be able to shut the door. The old scale had rounded edges throughout, so I couldn't even sit it up on end to get it out of the way without risk of it toppling over. When the old one started giving me 4 different readings with each tap of the scale within one minute, I knew it was time for a change.

After looking at several diferent scales, I opted for the EatSmart Precision Premium Digital scale. There is another EatSmart scale on the market which got favorable reviews, but this one was newer and happened to be on sale and therefore cheaper. I felt a little pang of resistance because there was only 1 review at the time of my purchase, and (if you are reading this know you know what I mean) I rely on reviews in making purchases over the internet.

My purchase arrived within a week of order (I did not use expedited shipping). I took it out of the package and the thing that struck me first was how lightweight it was. I installed the four included batteries and away I went weighing everything in sight to see if I could get consistent readings. First up was my four year old daughter. She stepped on, stepped off, and stepped on again. Same weight! Next was my husband, who reluctantly performed the same task. Same weight both times!!

Next it was my turn. I, of course, was not about to weigh-in "group style." So I ran the scale up to my bathroom. I stepped on, stepped off, and stepped on again. Uh-oh. Different weight. BUT, I stepped on again and got the same weight I got the second time around. I did that three or four more times and got the same weight again and again. Afterwards, I went downstairs and read the owner's manual for the scale.

THIS IS IMPORTANT: IF YOU MOVE THE SCALE (AND I MEAN EVEN AN INCH OR SO), YOU NEED TO TAP IT ON AND LET IT TURN ITSELF OFF. THIS PROCESS IS WHAT MAKES THE SCALE ACCURATE. IF YOU MOVE IT AND IMMEDIATELY WEIGH YOURSELF, YOU WILL GET A DIFFERENT WEIGHT BETWEEN THE FIRST AND SECOND READINGS.

The LCD screen is bright and super-easy to read. Readings appear to be accurate . . . I correlated them with an archaic dial scale I have where you can roll the dial to zero the scale. One of the surprising finds for me about this scale is that it is so slim in height that my doors can breeze right over the top without coming in contact with it. That means in my ultra-cramped quarters I don't have to constantly reposition it. Awesome!!

I highly recommend this product. Go ahead . . . buy it. You know you want to : )

Everything is right about this scale except the following:

1) The product description should make it clear that this scale cannot be used on carpet and should be mentioned in the bulletpoint list.

The scale has strain-gauge sensors in each of its four feet, thus if they are on an uneven surface the scale will output multiple changing weights. i.e. it becomes an unstable system. This is even true for very low pile carpet of apartments, almost entirely flat though enough give to render the scale useless without a solid base. So, I cut a piece of Masonite approximately 11" square and put it underneath and it works well-enough to stabilize the scale. A 12" square would work better.

The product description should clearly indicate the need for hard floors while also providing instructions on using the scale on low-pile carpeted surfaces via an additional base which could either be sold with the scale or made at home. It is then mainly an issue of knowing in advance that hard flooring is needed, and those using the scale on low-pile carpeting will need an additional base. Providing customers with this information resolves the issue prior to purchase.

2) A previous anomaly has since been effectively addressed by the company. The company president called to discuss the issue. Not only did they acknowledge it existed, they already had a fix on the way and shipped out a replacement unit.

Because of this admirable customer service I have changed my earlier review from 4 stars to 5 stars - this scale and the company that stands behind their products deserves it.

It is both an excellent scale and value. It is also aesthetically pleasing. My first and remaining impression: I love it. And I enjoy interacting with it everyday.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best bathroom scale ever, December 16, 2009

This review is from: EatSmart Precision Premium Digital Bathroom Scale with 3.5" LCD and "Step-On" Technology (Health and Beauty)
I have had three other bathroom scales before. All of them measured with an error up to 1 lb per weighting. I had to hit them and step at least three times and average the result to get accurate reading. Makes you want to hit them harder every time.

But this scale is a blessing.

Here are my pros:
- Fine precision, measures right every time
- Big back-lit screen
- No need to hit it, just step on it
- Has a switch for pounds and kilograms - this was very important for me and it was not written clearly on the product description
- Looks nice, feels stable and well built
- Price. Normally you would suspect to pay a premium for the best product. But here you receive it for the normal price of other similar not so good products

Cons:
- My 2 year old likes it very much and weighs herself a lot for fun. Not a con actually :)

Conclusion:
If you need a bathroom scale, look no further, BUY THIS ONE!

I've been dieting since April, and my biggest source of frustration has been how inaccurate the scales have been! We gave our scales to our son and went to buy more at Walmart. After stepping on them 3 times and getting different results every time, I took them back and did some research before ordering these. They are fabulous! Though they weigh about 2 pounds heavier than our last scales, they are totally stable with the weight. I can step on them 10 times and get the same results. I have even tried stepping on them with a washcloth in my hand and they show the tiny difference in weight. Amazon has a glitch in their order system this season and when I ordered these and one other item, it put 2 of each in my basket. When the extras arrived, we were so impressed we decided to keep the extra scales and send them to our daughter in AZ so we have accurate scales out there too.

Don't waste your time with other scales. I've tried many of them and these are the most accurate.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good scale I guess, April 27, 2010

This is my first digital scale, seems to be ok but I dont know that I truly trust it! This scale seems to be overly sensitive, I had read that it must be used on a hard floor and I figured I was all good as my workout room has a pergo floor, nope even pergo has enough give in it to throw this sensitive thing into false readings! I finally moved it into my small bathroom with a tile floor and that seemed to solve that problem, however that room is so small it requires me to pick it up and put it away after each use, this scale seems to require a recalibrate every time you move it even if its just to a different spot on the floor a few feet away. This is a simple enough process, I find that the first reading after you move it is wrong, then step off and let it turn off and the next one will be different, do the same thing again and the next one will match up to the second. One thing I have noticed is if I let it sit and walk away for a minute and come back and step on it again sometimes I get a different reading again. All in all I think these problems stem from it being so sensitive, I have a size 12 foot and I weigh in at 280, I find that depending on how I stand on the scale, foot placement etc. I can get it to give me different readings, this may not be a problem with somone who fits the scale a bit better. All in all I think if you have a spot you can set this scale and just leave it alone you will not have any problems, I think if you bought the next model down you would be just as well off and you could save ten bucks though! In the end I am not unhappy as this scale was a good price and I think all bargin scales have similar issues, I dont know that in my situation I trust it on a day to day basis for samll goals but overall in the long term it will certainly show you how you are doing better than a analog!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best scale I've owned, November 12, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: EatSmart Precision Premium Digital Bathroom Scale with 3.5" LCD and "Step-On" Technology (Health and Beauty)
I was looking to replace an old scale. I bought this even though some other reviewers seem to doubt that the good reviews it got are real. Well, I'm a real customer and I love the scale; I've had it about three weeks now. It has a decent sized platform, while not being too big. The digits are backlight (when you step on the scale) and very easy to read. The scale provides me with reproducible measurments too. I weigh myself every morning, and every couple of days I weigh in 3 or 4 times just to see - and it has always given me the exact same weight.

'Nuff said!

UPDATE: I've been using this scale every day for almost two years now, and I couldn't be happier - reliable, precise, reproducible and an excellent value. AND, in that time I've had to change batteries only once. What more can one ask for?

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect, but..., April 4, 2010

This scale does a nice job in terms of its accuracy, a nice display, and a modern look. The manufacturer also did a nice job by including the four AA batteries and making them easy to install (no need for a screwdriver to get to the battery compartment). Delivery from Amazon was fast (as always) and the product packaging was easy to open.

I would have given this product a perfect five stars if it weren't for one issue...

The scale doesn't work unless it's on a solid, hard, flat surface. Even a thin carpet underneath will throw off the reading entirely. So just a heads up for those of you considering this product; don't buy it if the room you'll be placing it in is carpeted or as an alternative, you'll need a solid base for it to sit on to make it work. Hope this helps!

Ordered this scale, but the scale was defective. I submitted an unflattering review and was contacted by the seller who expressed regret about the problem. I was sent a replacement scale, which has worked perfectly since I received it. I love this scale, and the customer service from the company was superb. Excellent product and even better customer service!!!!

Wow, this scale is sooo easy to use, just step on and your weight appears and flashes. All on an easy to read illuminated dial. Great for those early winter mornings in Michigan when it is dark until 8:00 AM. My old scale required me to tap it, wait for three zeros to appear and then I could finally step on it to get my weight recorded. And I had to turn on the lights to see the readout. Also note that the retailer turned my order around within 3 days....excellent service !

Most of the reviews here were glorious, so I bought the scale. First two weeks -- accurate and consistent. But now, each and every weighing is different -- and there's a range of seven pounds either way!

Yes, I calibrated the scale properly. Three times.

Very frustrating.

Also, the glaring, bright blue light from the readout is odd, and lasts for quite a while -- Bright enough that if I weigh myself at six AM on a winter morning, the adjacent hallway lights up.

Cannot recommend. I regret the purchase.
