Review

Eaten By The Tiger by Emile Allen, is a very unusual book. It tells a doctor's story of his catastrophic injury from both sides of the couch, as a doctor and a patient. Dr. Allen writes clearly and frankly, and does not hold back on his most intimate emotions. He describes the terrible accident, his virtual collapse, and the long road back to a better and more meaningful life in a manner that holds the reader's interest from beginning to end. The book is recommended to everybody who has met horrendous circumstances in life (isn't that just about everyone?) and would like help in finding his or her road to recovery and a better life. --Alma H. Bond, Ph.D. Author of Jackie O: On the Couch and 20 other books

There are some books that move you to tears and some that can help you conquer your fears. In offering us his own story of turmoil and triumphs over life's challenges, Dr. Emile Allen shows us why God spared his life--so he could write Eaten By The Tiger. --Steve Alten New York Times best-selling author

What an amazing book. It is rare to have a doctor get back in touch with his sensitive side and find that there is more to life than work and status. The spirit and bravery of Dr. Allen are astonishing. Eaten By The Tiger fuels the minds of the reader to reflect on their own life, have gratitude, and let go of disempowering beliefs. --Ninon de Vere De Rosa President of NinonSpeaks

A Riveting & Awe-Inspiring Story...

When a surgeon goes to the operating room, one would never consider that the surgeon might not be the one to come out alive. Dr. Emile Allen barely escaped electrocution while saving a patient's life. On the other side of his near-death experience, he heard a voice clearly say, "I'm not ready for you yet. You have more work to do." Little did he know this pivotal moment would be the beginning of his transformative journey of self-discovery. A path that provided answers to the questions most people spend an entire lifetime asking: "Is that it? Is that what life is all about?"

Many people never fulfill their dreams, allowing opportunities to pass them by, paralyzed by fear of the unknown. Emile calls this fear 'The Tiger.' He learned to face 'The Tiger' head-on and embrace it, empowering him to reach levels of awareness he never knew existed. Seldom do we connect with a person who actually tells us: here's my path, here are my shattered pieces, and here's how I am putting them together.

In his courageous journey, Dr. Emile Allen describes his painstaking battle between triumph and fear. He weaves the reader through a page-turning tale blanketed with loss, pain, and that eye-opening moment only known to the enlightened. This intimate recant of a near-death experience, the trying years ahead, and the bravery to persevere, will hit a raw nerve with all walks of life. Displaying a true testament of fortitude and unremitting spirit, Emile will leave you feeling refreshed and enthusiastic to claw out of any life crisis.

Travel the magnetic journey with Emile as he shows you the path to accept and overcome life's challenges, whether they are financial, emotional or physical. Eaten By The Tiger™ provides you with the key that opens the door to a brighter and more empowered life. The question is--will you choose to turn the key?

The universe has given me a gift...it has come to me in the most unexpected and beautiful way, it has changed my life. Before I started reading Eaten By The Tiger, I knew that it would be inspirational and I would learn many invaluable lessons, what I didn't expect was that it would be such an immediate life altering experience. This has to be one of the most incredible books I have ever read. The pages of Eaten By The Tiger seem infused with spiritual energy. This is more than a book, it is a gateway to knowing ourselves and to understanding the power of universal and God energy. Dr. Allen, your experiences and your insights have defined and made clearer that which has confused me for most of my life. Those of us who have read Eaten by the Tiger are all so privileged to have travelled your journey with you. I will remember your "angels' and think of them almost like my own...Roxy, Mattie, your parents, the new born baby, the old man in Fiji and Rajesh. When you inhaled your dad's last breath, you were comforted in the knowledge that both of you shared a beautiful life together. I feel like you have exhaled into the universe and those who read your book are now inhaling YOUR soul. My sincerest thanks Dr. Allen for giving me hope. I intend to get this book for all of my friends, it is my handbook for life.

What I uncovered in this book far exceeded whatever my expectations were. I thought I was going to read an inspiring story followed by a bulleted list of self-help suggestions, and was instead practically ambushed by Dr. Allen's sincere and inspirational memoir.

He begins his story with an account that would be downright amusing if it wasn't true... he barely escapes death by electrocution while performing surgery on a patient. It was one of the most bizarre tales I have ever heard. What follows is a fascinating narrative of denial, grief and empowerment that overflows with inspiration.

Emile Allen was a successful surgeon in the years leading up to his accident; a life that had become comfortable, familiar and rewarding. Now unable to perform the most basic of tasks and riddled with pain he finds he is no longer able to maintain his practice. He becomes stuck in a destructive loop of disabilities, pain, medication, side-effects and more medications. With the loss of his career, self-esteem and identity Dr. Allen finds he must face his `tiger' head on... fear. He begins by remembering his true, original life passion and analyzing how he went off course. He writes about his journey in simple, engaging language, coming to this beautiful conclusion,
"It became clear to me that fighting for control in my life is disempowering... I realized that feeling vulnerable is okay... Being eaten by the tiger is the greatest gift that has ever happened to me."

Dr. Allen writes in a clear, easy to understand style without a lot of cluttered language. He is clearly interested in sharing his gifts, not parading them. There is not one boring spot in this book and I was generally frustrated when I had to set it down and deal with my day-to-day activities.

Emile shares his story in such a real and unpretentious way. His emotions are raw. His descriptions Eaten By The Tiger: Surrendering to an Empowered Lifepaint in vivid colors his amazing experience. Easy to find parallels to what each of us experiences in our own daily lives. Definitely an eye opener to many. Actionable items; not just a story. Get this book! Informative and interestingly presented to the reader. See who he was and how he saw himself before the accident. Follow him through his struggles and focussed efforts to adapt and change. You will celebrate with him as you finish the book to see who he is now .... and how you can do the same with whatever YOUR tiger is.

I read this entire book the same day it arrived and couldn't put it down. The story of one man's career dream being shattered by a freak accident was written in a captivating way that held my attention from the very beginning. What I appreciated most is how this doctor "gets it" when it comes to really understanding what suffering is from a patient's perspective. Since he became a patient, he got to see first hand how broken and flawed our healthcare system really is, and how he had to find the ambition from within to rally a come back and build a new life. If anyone has had to go through the hellish experience of having their health taken away, either by illness or injury, this book is a must have for anyone trying to rebuild their life and find new meaning. I don't want to give too much away, but the final two chapters are rich with content that can benefit anyone's life, in finding proper balance and harmony in living life the way it was meant to be lived. I heartily recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand what an empowered life is and how they can have it.
