3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I was after for a client perspective, October 17, 2011
This review is from: Eating Disorders: A Reference Sourcebook (Hardcover)
This book was far more in depth than I needed. Not that that's a bad thing, just I expected there to be more material that would be helpful for a person with eating disorder issues could read and find a starting point to investigate recovering from their eating disorders. It was more a reference book for educators, students and professionals. It wasn't a starting reference for someone looking to recover from this serious condition.

As I went through the book some actual helpful points were raised that were personally helpful to me. Some of these were books that were being referenced that are actual workbooks for patients, there were terms like "Father Hunger" and questions to ask of your relationship with your father and those for the father to ask of himself, having a food journal, etc... These were helpful things for recovery and what patients are looking for.

The book wasn't poorly written, but it was very dry and took a long time to read through. Overall, I did like how it was laid out. It was broken up into sections and kind of a newspaper style formatting that is easier to read than just regular paragraphs. It also had a lot of website links, organizations and places to contact for more info and help with eating disorders at the back of the book.

I wouldn't recommend this book for your everyday client, but it could be helpful for a lot of professionals or students that want basic understanding of eating disorders and the issues stemming from it on a physical, emotional and mental stand point.

I rate this book with a 3/5, with my likes and dislikes in mind.
