Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher

Eating & Drinking in Latin America features the foods, beverages, dining specialties and customs of: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela.

From the Author

Nothing can make a trip to Latin America more enjoyable and rewarding than great dining experiences. This guide will not only help you find your way around a menu written in Spanish or Portuguese, but will also help you better appreciate the unique and wonderful food found throughout Latin America.

You’re going to find strange and unusual items on Latin American menus. You probably know that the Spanish word for meat is carne; that won’t help you if you find ropa vieja – literally, "old clothes" – on a menu. In fact, it’s shredded beef. And we’re relatively certain that your Spanish lessons in school, however extensive, never taught you that llapingachos are cheese-filled potato pancakes found in Ecuador. But with this little guide tucked inconspicuously into your pocket, you’ll be able to boldly go where you once may have feared to enter.

Eating and Drinking in Latin America includes:
• The most comprehensive menu reader available
• Dining specialties of Mexico, Central America, South America, Puerto Rico, Cuba and the Dominican Republic
• Advice on restaurant etiquette
• Short pronunciation guides and opinions on everything from what to eat to how to order it...
