I have a number of friend with gluten allergies so it's important for me to know what they can and can't eat and to be able to cook food that is both safe and delicious for when I have them over. One of my friends with a gluten allergy recommended this book to me and it was definitely a learning experience to read! The author goes through her own experience of living with a gluten intolerance and how she had to organize her own life (including cooking every meal for herself and family for a year) in order to manage this problem. I really didn't understand how gluten allergies worked or how many different disorders, like Fibromyalgia, were negatively affected by having gluten in the diet.

This book really and clearly breaks down who is affected by gluten allergies and intolerances, as well as a comprehensive, well cited list of what foods contain gluten and may contain gluten (or may be cross contaminated with gluten). Further, the author very helpfully notes which foods Gluten is not just in wheat, I learned from this book, but also in barley and rye. This book is truly an excellent guide to creating a gluten free life. It offers clear, well cited information and lots of helpful resources for people who are looking for gluten free foods as well as information for how to identify if a food has the potential to be cross contaminated with gluten. It discusses what to do when at someone else's house, how to dine out safely, and what you can and cannot eat. It also discusses how to take advantage of foreign goods stores like Chinese markets to find inexpensive gluten free products that you might not find in standard Western supermarkets.

In short, this is an excellent guide to live gluten free without breaking your piggybank. an EXCELLENT resource for people with gluten allergies and friends who want to create an environment of safe and delicious eating for all of their friends. GREAT BOOK!

Gluten-free eating is all the rage right now, as people realize the health benefits of avoiding this unnecessary part of our diet. I, myself, was having unexplained digestion problems as well as random joint pain. My doctor suggested cutting out gluten, and both problems disappeared almost immediately. Here is a book that contains a ton of great tips on how to sustain a gluten-free diet easily and affordably. Recommended.

I have been trying to go gluten free in my diet for the past year, but I'm always so confused as to what food is gluten free and what isn't. Not anymore. Author Franny Seto has made it so much easier for me to shop for and buy the right foods.

I was truly impressed by how thorough her information is. She tells you what is and isn't gluten free and provides complete lists and descriptions of all the alternative foods you can buy. There is a veritable cornucopia of substitutions, some of which I didn't know existed. For example, I never knew there was such a thing as acorn or chestnut flours!

The author is also generous enough to provide coupon sites and websites that provide further information. And she covers being gluten free from every angle, such as how to deal with it when going to a party or eating out.

I am intrigued to try so many of the products recommended. I know how much better I feel when I avoid wheat and gluten, but I miss the taste and texture of bread and baked goods. This book gives me hope that I won't need to deprive myself of that satisfaction. I'm so glad I got it.

We have been slowly adapting to a gluten free household as an experiment for our son. I can honestly say that meal planning & grocery shopping has become overwhelming. To the point that meal time is my biggest source of stress. Many of the tips found in this book have helped me feel more comfortable with the idea of creating GF meals. I had been trying to "do it all" by converting everything, which was why the process was going so slowly.

Ms. Sato outlines ways to create a baby-step plan that makes gluten free living easier to handle. She provides many wonderful links and sources for gluten free food, cooking, coupons and cookbooks. I found the simplest tips were the most helpful to me (eat naturally GF, make your own snacks, baked goods). I was aware of many of the tips but reading this book helped me realize I needed to slow down a little. Following her tips, my trip to the grocery store this morning was surprisingly cheap in comparison to my previous attempts at GF shopping!
