Wow!,

This review is from: Eating Heaven (Mass Market Paperback)
Jennie Shortridge's Eating Heaven is one of the best books I have read. I connected with Eleanor and her interesting family in ways I didn't know I could. Uncle Benny and his struggle with pancreatic cancer was not only close to home for me personally, but it taught me a lot about the way we love and who we love and what constitutes family. This is a wonderful book about family, life, food, and finding what you need, even if it's not what you think you want. I highly recommend this novel.

Very Touching,
This review is from: Eating Heaven (Mass Market Paperback)
I loved this book. It's the story of Eleanor and her relationship with food, her mother, her 2 sisters and an uncle who is about to die. The characters all had such depth that I felt as if I truly knew them. The writing had wonderful flow and I could not put it down.....I did not want this book to end.

For women of all shapes and sizes!,
By Allie Fairaway (Silver Springs, MD) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eating Heaven (Mass Market Paperback)
A beautiful story about a beautiful-on-the-inside larger woman and how she cares for her dying uncle and is brought back to life herself. There's lots of food, humor, tears, reality, family, and of course, love. This book is written so much better than most of the ones we see in this kind of women's lit (NOT chick). The author is poetic in places, then stark raving real in others, and it works. If you love Jennifer Weiner's books, Good Grief, and that kind of thing, don't miss it!

A wonderful book!,

I read Eating Heaven because I loved Jennie Shortridge's first book, Riding with the Queen. I was almost afraid to read the second one, because sometimes authors can't "do it again" after a great first book.
I was thrilled to find that it was even better! Ms. Shortridge has managed to plumb the depths of family and love once again, maybe even deeper this time. This story of a larger woman who doesn't feel worthwhile (mostly because her mother is so horrible) and finds love and redemption and self-love through taking care of a dying uncle feels even more real than Riding with the Queen I've never been to Oregon, but now I want to go! It sounds so beautiful. And reading this book will leave you seriously hungry! The food descriptions are mouthwatering.

I read about 100 books a year, and seldom have I been so taken with a novel. The book was a sensual feast, the characters were beautifully real. I'll recommend this story and this author to dozens of friends.

One of the best books I have read in a long time. It is touching and funny. Makes you think about family and their meaning. As a Oregonian I could really idenify with every nook and cranny of Portland as Eleanor traveled through the city. The love story was also very sweet. I give the author Jennie Shortridge an A+ for her effort. I hope there are many more delightful books in her head, I will be first in line to buy them...

Heavenly,

Jennie Shortridge's new book, Eating Heaven, is only slightly less wonderful than Riding WIth the Queen.
It has depth, tenderness and insight into both the world of eating disorders and death and dying. Her characters are people we all know and her compassion for human weakness is deeply moving. It's got a lot of laughs, too. If you have ever overeaten or known someone who has died, you will treasure this book.

DO NOT BUY THE PINK UK VERSION-PUBLISHER DIDN'T PROOF,

This review is from: Eating Heaven (Paperback)
Hello, dear reader. Jennie Shortridge, author, here. The pink cartoony cover is the UK version of my book, Eating Heaven, and the UK publisher failed to proof the scanned and reprinted copy before printing these books. It is riddled with mistakes and typos, and one chapter is completely out of order. If you want to purchase it for the novelty of having the UK version, by all means do, but if you want to actually read the book, please purchase the original US NAL/Penguin version, with the beautiful blue "heaven in a bowl" cover, also available on Amazon and everywhere.

Eating disorders, tense mother daughter relationships, affairs, and cancer are a powerful mix and yet so real that life pours out of every paragraph. What a combo, I enjoyed the book and finished it in a few days savoring it even when I had to go brush my teeth.
This is the kind of novel that makes me want to stay home with a blanket tucked in my own world and living the world of the characters. Ellie the main character is lovable, insecure, bulimic, and has problems with her mother and father, and well with her sisters, as well as, with food. She loves to cook and her dishes are unique. You will love her and you will feel for her and with her the pain she experiences when her uncle Benny is diagnosed with Cancer and she takes on the role of care taker. The author uses food as a catalyst for feelings, moods, and even eras, its very creative and I can say I will not forget her characters anytime soon. Splendid, deep and utterly real.

Up past midnight,
By T. Leigh (Tennessee) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eating Heaven (Mass Market Paperback)
The title made me pick up the book. The story kept me turning pages--yep!--until well past midnight. And it's all Jennie Shortridge's fault for writing such a wonderful, touching story and making every single word and sentence count (no skimming allowed). Jennie's heroine, Eleanor Samuel, will not soon be forgotten. And, yes, that means that "Riding with the Queen" is now in my library and tagged for my next overnight reading session.
