The only comprehensive restaurant guide to the Hudson Valley: New York City's local food source and one of the most celebrated and unique epicurean destinations in the country.
The Hudson Valley has an abundance of top chefs, many of them graduates of the region's world-famous Culinary Institute of America, whose menus showcase fresh ingredients from local farms, wineries, and orchards. Eating the Hudson Valley guides readers to the best fine, casual, and kid-friendly restaurants, wineries, orchards, farm stands, and epicurean festivals, revealing stories about the people behind them, plus the historic sites, mansions, museums, riverfront parks, and family activities along the way. 40 black-and-white photographs and 3 maps
Despite growing up in Manhattan-or perhaps because of it - I developed an early appreciation for travel, the environment and the outdoors, and write about adventures in the nearly 100 countries I have visited to ski, scuba dive, hike, bike, raft, spa, prowl around ancient and mythical archeological sites, or sit at a sidewalk café.
I've written or contributed to more than 30 travel guidebooks about New York City, the Hudson Valley, the Caribbean, Canada and skiing. My newest guidebook, "Peaceful Places NYC", features some of the hundreds of quiet, tranquil escapes and picture postcard vistas for the 'quiet time' we all need.
I've also written an 'app', NYC Free and Frugal, loaded with budget-priced restaurants, activities, and shops where you'll never pay retail.
My love of NYC's subway system notwithstanding, I also write extensively on edo-friendly green cars, including a syndicated newspaper column. I've also been known to pull on a helmet to test drive new models around a racetrack at warp speed.
A product of parents who owned and operated neighborhood retail stores, I champion consumer rights and issues in articles and web postings. Before switching to print and the web, I was the consumer reporter for WABC-TV "Eyewitness News" and for WCBS-AM "Newsradio 88″ in New York City, investigating and reporting on frauds and dangerous products. Some of those reports also were for the parent networks, ABC News and CBS News.
I'm a lifelong New Yorker, and raised two children as a single parent when I was widowed, and I am fiercely proud of the wonderful, accomplished adults they have grown up to be.
