Eating a Meal incorporates the senses of sight, smell, and taste in a discussion of digestion and elimination. Each topic is covered in a double-page spread that includes a short introductory paragraph; a captioned, full-color photo of a young caucasian male engaging in action that illustrates the topic; one or more large diagrams of internal organs or processes; and specifics about certain aspects of the process. Fact boxes feature related trivia and statistics. Running a Race presents a cursory look at an Indian boy's skeletal, muscular, respiratory, and circulatory systems. Parker also mentions the skin, food as fuel, and the importance of exercise. The writing in both titles is clear, concise, and interesting. Ideas for activities and tips for staying healthy are included; terminology is defined in the glossary rather than in the narrative. Aimed at audiences between Paul Shower's ``Let's Read and Find Out'' series (HarperCollins) and most elementary anatomy books, these titles pack a lot of information into a minimum of space. --Denise L.
