Not his best but better than the rest..., September 7, 2005
This review is from: Eating's Not Cheating (Audio CD)
You might know MC Chris (Chris Ward) better as MC Pee Pants, Sir Loin, or Little Brittle on [adult swim]'s Aqua Teen Hungerforce and Hesh on Sealab 2021. This album features 14 tracks (all music, no skits on this one) of white bread nerdy hip-hop. While that might not sound appealing to you're average hip-hop fan, for those of us who love hip-hop's infectious sound yet can't identify with the lyrics, this is the perfect solution. Especially if like me you're early years were spent sleeping on Lando Calrusian's face (empire bed sheets) while deciding what alignment your warrior should be (chaotic-nuetral). That's not to say traditional hip-hop fans won't find this album entertaining. This music crosses boundries. The rhymes are old school and fit well with Chris' high pitched voice. He flows very well and the rhymes never sound forced. DJ John (John Fewell), the person responsible for the beats, does an excellent job at providing a background that's varied and well put together. Elements of drum and bass, break beat, and even punk (with the misfits bass line on Evergreen) find their way onto this album. Check out some sample tracks on his website. If you find yourself to be a fan then check out this album. It's extremely good. Also check local listings to catch the man on tour. Absolutely awesome shows. Only reason it's four stars instead of five is because I don't think this is his best album. Like the title says though, it's better than 99% of the stuff that's played on the radio nowadays. Pick it up. Track Listing: 01. mcchrisownz 02. badass 03. illyoi! 04. tractorbeam 05. robotdog 06. evergreen 07. variety 08. toothpickspliffs 09. rats 10. stoptime 11. yachtbirds 12. carebear 13. boysdon'tcry 14. mynameis

I absolutely ADORE this CD! I am not a fan of Hip-hop at all...but this isn't the run of the mill crap on the radio. I put this album up there with Paul's Boutique...it is that good.
