2.0 out of 5 stars meh, August 28, 2010

I am an Apostle of Hustle fan and, although i can respect the attempt to put something new out there, it is my opinion that this album falls short. if you're new to Apostle, National Anthem is an amazing album; if you're expecting National Anthem, save your money.

3.0 out of 5 stars inconsistent, June 29, 2009

Being a big Broken Social Scene fan I instantly became an Andrew Whiteman admirer. With his first two beautifully produced, musically intellectual and artistic albums, one could make an educated guess that his third full-length would breech a more exciting and insightful horizon that he was headed for. Buying this album as a dedicated Apostle fan, and on a whim, there was not a doubt in my mind that Whiteman and his band would deliver the much needed perfectly crafted music that I was inclined to hearing. Unfortunately, to much dismay I was wrong about my expectations of Apostle's new album. His beautifully crafted bossa nova inspired melody and chord cadences disappeared and his rich fulfilling folkloric vocals dissipated throughout the course of their new album. Worst of all, his baroque production and wall of instruments was almost non-existent. Although the CD was well produced I felt that his past albums had more of a soulful and meaningful feel. Overall, Apostle gave a more flippant and shallow attempt at creating music for their new album and I hope they can keep in touch with their roots before they make another shallow and less heartfelt CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Unique with quirky lyrics, June 12, 2009
This review is from: Eats Darkness (MP3 Download)
This LP and band/group I have never heard of, but I was looking up a list of Indie Rock artists and this band popped up.

I Thought I'd check into them, and as I shouldn't, I before hand already assumed that it probably would be okay to horrible. To my surprise, it isn't. In fact, it's pretty good and quite unique. If you want something pop, light rock, but upbeat to a good medium, then this album might cut it for you.

I would say, too, that this album is slightly on the experimental side, but that could be good to some people as well. At any rate, it's a good album with individualistic values, musically.
