Book Description

A Jim Kirkwood Novel October 22, 2007
Jim Kirkwood’s visit to an antique shop in Queens, New York, starts with an invitation and ends in a hail of bullets. Kirkwood, a self-indulgent, self-confident, and at times unsympathetic connoisseur of human nature, finds himself swept into a bottomless pit of betrayal and malice in his hunt for perhaps the greatest archeological find of all time. At a clandestine auction held at a mansion in southern England, the situation quickly turns deadly, throwing Kirkwood into a cat and mouse game of deception, greed, and murder.

In his search for what has been lost for hundreds of years, Kirkwood chases a man of the Church who just may be the most evil person he has ever encountered, and a woman who is by far the most beautiful and mysterious. Along with Iain MacLeod, Chief of the Clan MacLeod, Kirkwood crisscrosses Scotland and England in pursuit of a murderer and the treasure that may hold secrets associated with the Gnostic Gospels.

Reunited with an old comrade, Kirkwood must settle old scores, but it may cost him his life. The Ebony Coffin, author B. Eugene Ellison’s fifth Jim Kirkwood novel, is an exhilarating, fast-paced adventure filled with history and intrigue.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ebony Coffin, January 6, 2008

Readers who like mystery and adventure will love visiting Jim Kirkwood's spectacular world of international intrigue. The basic premise is gripping and unique, and the author promptly sets the tone and focus. The author's intimate knowledge of Scottish history and the religious element add depth and resonance to the story--mixed in with the fun of Jim Kirkwood's slightly flawed but always exciting character. The story is very well executed, and the author uses language skillfully.

The storyline is tightly plotted and moves at a good pace; scenes and action sequences fit neatly together to move the action forward. There are many conflicts between characters throughout and many events, both large and small, that propel the plot and provide background information as needed. The plot certainly holds the reader's attention.

The Ebony Coffin includes an assorted cast of thugs, thieves, religious icons, and brilliant scholars. The characters are all wonderfully vibrant. Each has his or her own distinct personality, made evident by their actions and appearances, and Jim Kirkwood is a truly fun character to go on an adventure with.
