The real deal,

If you are looking for real classic soul that fathered the mainstream soul and r&b of the late 60s and 70s, this is straight from the streets and as funky as it gets. "Mystic" is ripe with the essence of soul that truly was the beginning of disco in the city, before it evolved into disco towards the later part of the decade in mainstream music. "Come on and gettit" by Marion Black was the song that led me to this cd, once hearing it on the college radio channel one afternoon I immediately knew I had to find the cd. It's a song filled with so much energy you just want to jump up outta your seat and groove to it, maybe even do the bump. this cd is great music when you need some revitalization and would recommend it for a good old fashioned house party.

All of these songs have their charms, but the standout is "You and Me" by Penny and the Quarters. It's a sweet slice of heartfelt soul, just an angelic lead singer and some harmonizing backup singers, their voices floating above a simple guitar. The sheer joy of this song will melt a heart as hard as anthracite. So glad it's getting some notice now as part of the "Blue Valentine" movie soundtrack.
