Coulda, shoulda, woulda. An apt description for the Twinight Label. They're recordings were inpressive enough, the trouble was they didn't recieve the promotion and respect they deserved. It's good to see Numero helping to rectify this matter

Pure soul, not as "hot" as some of the Numero Uno releases,

What you will find here is "classic 70's soul" in all its many incarnations of the period-- plenty of falsetto vocals and other things that will remind you of famous artists contemporary to the time. In other words, little known artists performing songs in the mold of the Dells, O. V. Wright, etc. Nate Evans (who I believe graces the cover) is a ringer, vocally, for Lou Rawls. I admit I didn't find this as hot as some of the other Numero Uno releases such as Belize City Boilover and Grand Bahama Goombay, which are enlivened by their Carribean ethnic influences. Therefore the 4 stars instead of 5. But if you are looking for some pure 70's soul sounds, this is for you.

A friend of mine hipped me to this label (NumeroGroup) by making me a copy of this Twinight's Lunar Rotation double album on CD. I was not much of a soul music fan at that time- the only soul music that I REALLY REALLY loved was my Marvin Gaye "What's Going On" record. I tried getting into some of the other mainstream/classic soul artists but none of them could do me like Marvin. Well that all went out the window when I popped Twinight's Lunar Rotation disc 1 into my system. WOW! What an amzing collection of underground soul/funk circa Chicago 1967-72. And disc 2 is just as great. I've never heard of any of these artists but I was/am blown away by the quality of music in this collection. I promise you, you will not be able to sit still and listen to this album. I like it so much, that I went right over to my local record store and bought the 4xLP set on vinyl. It includes 13 extra tracks (not on the CD version) and it's all wrapped up in a nice package with history and artwork/photos. These tunes are dripping with passion/coolness/love/musicianship. Amazing. Simply amazing. Thank you Numero Group for digging these diamonds up and making them readily available. Buy this album, you won't regret it. If you aren't hooked by the time the first two tracks of disc 1 are finished, you had better check your pulse and/or your hearing.

This is one of the best in a very good series. Great soul songs you've never heard, very well mixed and great (HDCD) sound quality.
