I bought this particular product for two reasons: I didn't need any mic preamps, and I once in a great while, I need to record up to twelve tracks of audio at once.

First, let's talk about how well it sounds. I laugh whenever I hear amateur audio engineers discussing how modern A/D converters sound, because it reminds me of how amateur wine tasters discuss wines. You could pour a cheap box wine into a fancy, vintage bottle, serve it to amateur wine tasters, and they'd immediately begin lauding the wine's fruity bouquet and woody aftertaste. Well, I could tell just about anyone my studio uses a $3,000 Apogee converter and they wouldn't know any better. That's my way of saying the Echo AudioFire12 sounds excellent. I have no complaints whatsoever. If I thought the sound was the least bit flat or gritty, I'd say so.

The 1/4" jacks in the back of the unit are very tight. That gives me confidence that the connectors are top quality and the connections are solid.

The only complaint I have about the AudioFire12 is that each channel only has four audio level LED lights of the front panel. Two green, one amber, and one red. I wish it had at least twice as many lights for more accurate monitoring, because when the audio hits the red, it clips without exception. It would be nice to be able to glance at the AudioFire12's front panel and see just how close to red the audio was getting before it actually got there.

I run Cubase 7 64-bit on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, and the AudioFire works flawlessly. Not one single hiccup. But when I play back audio on a 32-bit program, such as an older version of Sound Forge, I hear some audible popping going on. But the pops are are only audible during playback, and do not transfer into any audio being recorded.

Shipped quickly, well pack. Unit had no setup issues and performed as described and as expected. Immediately packed up and shipped out for black lion audio mod for integration into our system as a hardware insert interface with 500 series gear. Worth the price and then some.

I use this for conversions from analog to digital and it works like a champ! No artifacts, no noise, just music!
