Editorial Reviews

2010 release from the lo-fi Alt-Roots/Rock outfit. He distance between 2007's at Rear House and at Echo Lake may at first seem only semantic, but it more properly represents a move from a kind of informal back porch jam ethos to a fully-committed vision of the infinite possibilities of group playing. Over the past few years, Woods has established themselves as an anomaly in a world of freaks. They were an odd proposition even in the outre company of vocalist/guitarist Jeremy Earl's Woodsist roster, perpetually out of time, committed to songsmanship in an age of noise, drone and improvisation, to extended soloing, oblique instrumentals and the usurping use of tapes and F/X in an age of dead-end singer/songwriters. At Echo Lake feels like a diamond-sharp distillation of the turbulent power of their live shows.

Woods does it again with another healthy dose of skeletal psychedelia. Throw on Echo Lake for some sunshiney-dew-dipped golden melodies. Fantastic.

i hate writing reviews. i just like reading them. so i'm gonna keep this short. i'm only writing this cuz there are really not enough reviews on here for this amazing band. I LOVE THIS BAND. and i love this album. imo, "echo lake" is as good as "songs of shame". sample the songs, "blood dries darker" and "time fading lines" and see if you like them as much as i do.

This is a delightful, lulling and excruciatingly beautiful album. Standout tracks include Blood Dries Darker, Suffering Season and Death Rattles. For anyone interested in Indie music, this is one of the finest, most nuanced bands on the scene. Woods strive to blend into perfection whimsical vocals and stunning melodies. The lyrics can be a little dark but the entire experience is one of jubilance. Crank up your stereo for the opening track and leave it there. This album is a masterpiece.
