Book Description

The first book in the ECHO TRILOGY.

DISCOVER WHAT'S HIDDEN--a powerful, mythic race, an ancient Egyptian prophecy, and a love strong enough to shatter the boundaries of time.

"...we only see what we want to see...what we expect to see..."

Alexandra Larson isn't human, but she doesn't know that. As far as Lex is concerned, she's simply an ambitious archaeology grad student with a knack for deciphering ancient languages, especially the various forms of Egyptian. When she's recruited to work on her dream excavation and her translating skills uncover the secret entrance to an underground Egyptian temple, Lex is beyond thrilled by her discovery...as is the enigmatic and alluring excavation director, Marcus Bahur. As the relationship between Lex and Marcus heats up, a series of shocking revelations leave the young archaeologist reeling.

Together, she and Marcus are all that's standing between an ancient evil being and the power to alter the very fabric of time. Events set in motion by a dying god over four millennia ago pull Lex and Marcus away from Seattle and into the heart of Egypt, where Lex learns that the fate of the world depends on one thing: the strength of her heart.

Editorial Reviews

Review

A RONE "Best Indie or Small Published book of 2013" nominee.
An LASR "Best Book" of 2013 nominee.

"
What a superb novel!  Lex is a strong female lead who does not give an inch to her deliciously seductive, alpha male lover, Marcus.  They do not immediately jump into bed, and the slow build of sexual tension is sensual, steamy, and all the more satisfying for the anticipation."
--InD'Tale Magazine

"Lindsey Fairleigh has articulated a tale as old as time, while masterfully assimilating a modern twist into the pages of Echo Prophecy. A must read for those who are looking to break out of the normal vampire, werewolves, ghost and ghoul reads that are currently flooding their bookshelves."
--Eryn Bagley, PureTextuality.com

"I was just blown away by the way she incorporated the Egyptian mythology into the story and used it to create a believable explanation for the Egyptian gods...Even if you aren't the biggest ancient Egyptian fan, I highly recommend Echo Prophecy. It's a well-written, fast-paced novel with just enough romantic tension to keep the slow parts interesting."
--Carrie Slager, The Mad Reviewer

About the Author

Lindsey Fairleigh lives her life with one foot in a book—as long as that book transports her to a magical world or bends the rules of science. Her novels, from post-apocalyptic to time travel and historical fantasy, always offer up a hearty dose of unreality, along with plenty of adventure and romance. When she’s not working on her next novel, Lindsey spends her time reading and trying out new recipes in the kitchen. She lives in the Napa Valley with her loving husband and confused cats.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Blend of Romance, History, and Magic November 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I love Egyptian mythology. I’m also a huge, unrepentant, nerdy fan of The Matrix. When the first Matrix movie occupied the theaters, so did I. Twelve times. I even, although don’t tell anyone I said so, kinda liked the Twilight series, especially the last two. Oddly enough, all of these loves collide in this book, in which the main character, Alexandra Larson, archaeologist and Egyptologist, stumbles across a race of beings on whom the ancient Egyptian divine mythologies were based. More, Lex learns she is not only one of them, but, like Neo, is The One. I’m a shameless fan of “The One” trope. How cool is it when a normal, even boring person, finds out she’s, oh, you know, the savior of the human race or something? Booyah! Finally and bizarrely, the gender dynamics between Echo Prophecy's two main characters reminded me a lot of the relationship between Bella and Edward in Twilight: arrogant and gorgeous man whom everyone wants falls madly, hopelessly, protectively in love with the shero, who cries a lot over him until they resolve their differences and have steamy sex.

Farleigh’s universe is creative and interesting. It’s also educational; I learned quite a bit more about those awesomely anthropomorphic Egyptian gods. She populates it with likable and unlikable people and a few who, as in real life, are both. (Heaven knows I like me some blurring of the traditional boundaries.)

Farleigh’s greatest strength, in my opinion, is her clever use of dialogue. She’s fantastic at portraying realistic patterns of speech. I like characters’ misunderstandings, slips of the tongue, and anxious stutterings; it’s a giant slice of relatable reality. My favorite character is Kat, the eighteen-year-old daughter of a shop owner.

4.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant read! October 31, 2013
By Chene
Format:Kindle Edition
I loved this book. It could be because of my existing love of all things mythical related but either way I really enjoyed this book! At the beginning of the book there are maps which help you get a feel of the place when they get to Egypt. I think this was a brilliant idea as it helped the world building which was also great.

Characters: 4/5
I really enjoy the family dynamics Lindsey has brought to the story. When reading about Lex and her interactions with her Mom, Dad, Grandma, I felt a part of it and felt the love between them all. All her characters are lovable in their own way, even Set who is the 'bad' guy you love to hate.

Plot, Writing style & Cover: 4/5
Lindsey incorporated the title brilliantly in the story and the plot kept my attention. The plot is balanced, has great world building, and you can see that a lot of research has gone into the story. I felt like a smart Egyptologist! The writing is catching and the story is well put together.
Lindsey has an easy writing style, the story flows and she sets a great pace.

I am glad there was no cliff hanger. The ending was the perfect prelude to the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Game of cat and mouse December 19, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
When I started reading the summary and saw that Echo Prophecy was about an Egyptian tomb and curse, I have to admit that I sighed. I’ve read plenty of books on Egyptian mummies and antiquities, romances and paranormal stories. Once I picked up the book and cracked the spine (ok, figuratively), though, I couldn’t put my eReader down. Alexandra, the protagonist, is a grad school student who finds herself having dreams that come true, learns that her father isn’t her biological parent, and is invited to work on one of the most exciting Egyptian expeditions all within a mind-numbingly short time frame. Poor Alexandra has gone from having a strong sense of self-identity to a dangerous game of cat and mouse with her life in danger.
Author Lindsey Fairleigh has found the perfect balance of romance, intrigue, paranormal aspects, and history to entertain the reader from tragic beginning to amazing ending. Her characters are realistic and human despite the inhuman aspects of several of the characters (No spoilers!!). The deep and loving bonds between Alexandra and her family, the love/hate bond of sisters, and the maternal instincts of parents that Fairleigh centers the mysteries of Egyptian gods and goddesses around gives the reader a sense of home and familiarity. On the flip side, Fairleigh has created a magnificent legendary story that’s fun and scary to read. Excellent book!

I agreed to read this book, even though I hadn't really checked to see what it was about. I sat down with it and just started reading with no preconceived ideas. By the time I finished the first chapter, I had to stop just to let my heart rate slow down. Wow!! What an exciting start to a story. I was absolutely hooked on just this chapter. I hoped the rest would be as good, but that isn't always the way things work out.

The next morning I brewed a pot of coffee, poured myself a cup and sat down to read. When I finally reached for my coffee, it was cold. So I poured it out, got a fresh cup and picked up the book again. At the end of chapter 16, I reached for my cold coffee, and got up to throw it out. Then without coffee since, I sat down to read again. I just had to know what was going to happen.

Each chapter was a thriller. I was never disappointed. I couldn’t imagine that the next chapter would be as good as the last, but it was always as good or better. Each chapter would reveal, in a suspenseful way, a new and exciting fact that impacted the heroine. I could hardly wait to turn a page. I was completely invested in the plot and the characters. I can't remember the last time I was so utterly caught up in a story.

This is a unique paranormal/suspense/ romance, and not like anything I had read before. It revolves around the heroine and she is the main character in the story. I will not go into details about this story. I wouldn’t want to ruin it for anyone. Basically it revolves around something that happened thousands of years before. And that is all I will tell you about the plot. You will have to read it to find out more. I do not think you will be disappointed.

I absolutely loved this story. I have to give it 5 stars because that's as high as we cab go, but I would give it more if I could.
