2 Blocks Away From a Grammy!.,

This album fuses the sounds of inner africa with soulful improvisation by Dr.Ibrahim, accompanied by Jhonny Dyani on Bass. The Solos are calm and serene, with some burst out of energy, yet not running away from each other, they coproduce melody and harmony in soulful sense. The Light Vocals on top of the improvisation is a total plus point.Highly Recommended.-Ganesh.

Sweet Echoes,

Jean-Claude Izzo's SOLEA (final book in his darkly eloquent Marseilles Trilogy) led me to this CD. Izzo said it better than anything I could say, so I'll share it:
"One piece in particular, 'Ziker.' I didn't have any religious beliefs. But there was such serenity in the vocals on that track--a duet with his bassist, Johnny Dyani--it made you want to praise the earth and its beauty. I'd spent hours listening to that piece. At dawn or at sunset. It made me feel human." |
