Great album!! From the first riff your ears are pulverized into a fine paste, twitching as the music melts your brain...
If you are new to this band the album Echoes of Anguish is a great place to begin.
This album is the follow up to their ' Pope Adrian the 37th Psychristiatric ' album...which was a foray into the mind of singer/guitarist Nick Blinko and the delusions he suffered due to schizophrenia. The Pope Adrian album, as much as it is a must for any true fan of ' R.P. ' and one of my personal favorites, is a meandering monotone slab of drudgery...
whereas Echoes of Anguish is a bright, solid, heavy, crunching juggernaut filled with angst, revolution type sing-alongs and concise lyrics that convey the reckless abandon of youth, life and suicide, love, sex...

Most criticise this Cd as "nothing new" but you need to look at the big picture. Nicks privious album was "Pope Adrian the 3rd..." Which, to most people sucks. It was a loooong and drawn out cd which was a big change from their other cd's (like Death Church and ep's of rp's).
Keeping this in mind, ALL Rudimentary Peni fans MUST like this CD because Nick is trying to get back to his old material, and even shorter!
This Cd has great DeathRock/punk. Its songs are short, loud, and full of energy. A Must!

WITH ACCEPTION TO TRACK 11 (WHICH IS MOST LIKE OLD PENI) I THINK NICK BLINKO HAS RUN OUT OF THINGS TO YELL ABOUT, BUT YOU HAVE TO GIVE CREDIT WHERE ITS DUE. IT'S NOT LIKE THE LAST TWO.

I think the only flaw in this is the brevity. Aside from that, this disc is great. For fans of RP, it will take some getting used to, but there are alot of similarities to Death Church and the self-titled album. I miss the Cacophony humor though.

'Echoes of Anguish' (Released 1998 / 12 Tracks) This EP moves from punk to what I would consider more heavy metal / acid rock (still unmistakably RP). Hard to classify, the EP lacks the themed approach of some earlier releases and seems less cohesive in sound. Best viewed as a collection of tracks, it's probably my least-listened-to EP of RP, though it contains some especially strong material. The cover art and CD booklet are pretty graphical, and have some color.
