High quality recording & a great sense of "being there",

I'm impressed with the recording quality, which helps to take you away to the bayou, complete with alligators (of course!). The pig frogs produce incredible croaks, critters splash in and out of the water, nice crickets, and a growling 'gator. A great value, and one you don't want to miss.

Long-Time Companion,

I have owned this CD for quite some time, and I never tire of it. Having grown up in bayou country in southeast Louisiana, I am familiar with many of the sights and sounds of the bayous and the swamps around them.
With the encroachment of community development on nature in that area, many of these sounds have been lost forever in that part of the country. Yet, when I put this on to read or surf the net, it feels so good to know that these sounds have been recorded. My grandchildren may never hear these sounds other than on a recording such as this. OK, that's the political part of this. The instrinsic joy of this recording relates to memories of my childhood. I can remember Grandfather Klibert taking me with him to go crawfishing in the swamps off US Hwy 61 in St. Charles Parish back about 50 years ago. These are the sounds that greeted us and stayed with us the entire time. Grandfather didn't speak much, so there was lots of time to listen to nature. The cut entitled "Twilight" is especially relaxing.

The first thing that impressed me about this CD was the excellent sound quality. These recordings are often so obviously digital and/or fake. This does have some great animal sounds on it and does make you feel like you're wandering around in a shouthern marsh at twilight. Though in reality, that is scary and not pleasant like this CD is! Hearing a gator growl is not something you'd actually want to experience! I like to read to this recording. Good, unintrusive background noise. Very nice.

I love the bayou, and listening to its sounds can take you there (if only in your imagination). For me, this is meditative, something that takes me away from the city.

I own several of the CDs in this series and listen to them to isolate myself from the world in airports, hotels, and at home when I want to concentrate on something and there is a lot of background noise.
I listen to this one more than many of the others because I like the consistency of the long tracks (each one is 13-15 minutes long). I am familiar with many of the animals and birds that contribute to the tracks and I don't mind admitting that I listen out for the alligator, pigs and bears in their respective spotlights. To be clear on what you are buying this is literally 'Sounds of the Wild' recorded with top quality equipment out in the bush. There are no additions to what nature has to offer, no synthesizer, no voices, nothing but nature. And I like it. |
