Ocean in your landlocked bedroom,
By Joanna Daneman (Middletown, DE USA) - See all my reviews (TOP 10 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (COMMUNITY FORUM 04) (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)

I am a big fan of environmental sounds for relaxation. I often put the cd player on a timer for going to sleep if I am stressed, or use it for coaxing myself back to sleep if I wake with insomnia . The sad truth is that nearly my entire life, I've had trouble staying asleep the entire night. There is no time of night more USELESS than three am when you can't do anything that would wake up the rest of the house or else you really HAVE to sleep for a busy morning to come. Sometimes I get up and write, but recently, I've started playing environmental sounds to get to sleep and stay asleep. It really works for me. The problem with many of the ocean recordings I've heard is that they are either too crashingly loud, or have a fake sound, or the repeat is too short, all of which disturb you from the illusion of lying on a beach, dozing off. The quality of this recording is excellent. I can also say that this recording is fantastic when stuck on a long flight back from the West Coast. Just put on the headphones, and drop off for needed sleep on the red-eye. Ahhh.

rolling pebbles, waves, and office calm,
By Liz Birkholz (Seattle, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Echoes of Nature: Ocean Waves (Audio CD)
In my never-ending quest for the perfect CD to politely drown out my co-workers office-doings, this became one of several CDs I purchased in a spending flurry. Cheap, yes. Sound quality, adequate for an office environment and a pair of cheap headphones. A few birds, a section that does a very nice job of capturing the sound of pebbles being pushed up the shoreline, and of course, the rhythmic waves. Not a bad CD to quell office chat. Recommended if you are hunting for something that isn't completely white noise static. This one's inflections aren't so intrusive that you stop thinking your way through a report. It even lends peacefulness to your desk.

I have listened to this cd for years! It is very relaxing and soothing and definitely helps me sleep. It is only true ocean sounds, no music crap added. This is my second copy, as the first one got scratched when I moved. I highly recommend it!!!!!!!!!

Echoes of Nature: Ocean waves quickly became my favorite nature sound cd. It contains 4 tracks, each having a distinctly unique ocean sound. Note: If you are one of those who do not like animal sounds, a couple of tracks do contain seagulls and seals. I personally find them enjoyable, but then I am not using the cd to fall asleep. My personal favorite track is Big Surf as I love the huge crashing waves. Captivating and relaxing.
I later decided to purchase other Ocean recordings just to have more variety but have not found any that are as good. (I've tried Solitudes, and Sounds of the Earth, but both were dissapointing to me in comparison).

Rhythms of the Earth,
By A Customer

I couldn't recommend this CD more highly. It's almost as good as lying out on the beach... your eyes closed... listening to the waves. There may be other recordings every bit as good but there's none better. The recording artist used good equipment and placed the microphones just right on a wonderful beach where the waves break and roar and hiss and run up on the sand. You can hear the small pebbles click and tumble as the waves ebb and draw back. I bought this CD hoping it would help me get back to sleep at 3:00 in the morning. It does that and more. I play it when I'm relaxing in the living room. I play it when I'm reading, when I'm talking with my sweetie on the telephone. It's like fire. Something in us needs it... those sounds... those rhythms of the earth.

I'm always looking for soothing background noise while I'm working, napping, or turning in for the night, and this CD is the best I've found so far. Other ocean tapes or CDs I've heard sound like white noise or become predictable. This one is so realistic that if I close my eyes I can transport myself back to my hotel room on the beach in the Caribbean last February! Even the seagull sounds (which are subtle and minimal) are enjoyable (I usually find bird sounds on nature CDs irritating.) This was a really great buy. I highly recommend it!

This is a great live recording!,

It actually says on the CD sleeve that this is a real recording. I went to school for audio recording and find this to be a wonderful and relaxing recording of the ocean. The surf is a little strong at first, but appropriately gets softer as the CD progresses. I was not at all distracted by any 'static' (it must be noted, however, that when recording audio at the beach you sometimes get a staticy noise from wind--even with a filter). I highly recommend this CD which I currently use during self-hypnosis and eventually childbirth.

The peaceful rhythm of the waves make me feel like I'm camped right on the beach at night. Enough variety to sound like the real thing, but no fancy crescendos to shake you up. I play this a lot to go to sleep or relax after work, and just let the fantasy take over. With this CD I can close my eyes and be on my favorite beach in South Carolina. Great buy for the money.

Ride the waves to dreamland!,

Excellent sleepy-time CD! The sound quality is very good, and I especially like it with headphones--the waves sound like they are traveling through your head from one ear to the other. Would make a great gift for your favorite insomniac!

Pretty darned good...,

I am able to close my eyes while listening to this CD with high quality headphones, and effectively imagine myself at the seashore (does take a bit of imagination, but not too much). It's pretty much as well recorded as any other nature sounds CD I've heard, which is not necessarily high praise... I've never heard truly excellent realism with ANY recording of this type. I don't think it's possible to do with the limits of today's recording technology. Anyway, I do recommend this CD for those seeking this type of recording. Very relaxing indeed.
