4.0 out of 5 stars it's good for what it is
Let's appreciate that Pink Floyd tributes already exist in reggae, electronica, bluegrass, orchestral and even hip-hop. Keeping that in mind, let's remind ourselves that Pink Floyd has always been a guys band compared to groups like the Beatles. There's room in the tent for everybody, so why not a Lilith Fair tribute? 2.0 out of 5 stars Misplaced Talent
If you like contemporary female vocalists who all try to sound like each other, you might love this cd. However, if that's what you love, I'm not sure that you'll be looking for renditions of Pink Floyd songs. This is why I say misplaced.

I can't tell much difference between each singer. They all have that sultry "across the sheets at ya" voice. At least...

Despite the actual variations in quality, I'm often baffled by the dogmatic intolerance my fellow Floydians show to tribute projects. "Echoes of Pink: A Tribute to Pink Floyd" is well-done singer/songwriter project. The song choice is excellent, moving beyond the most obvious choices. The inclusion of tunes like 'Stay,' 'Cymbaline' 'Vera' and 'See Emily Play' are most refreshing. While some versions work better than others, the same can be said for any tribute project. Granted, the renditions may be a little too polished as the production compliments corporate radio sensibilities. Some may dismiss this as 'upper-middle class white girl music,' but these songs translate with a level of sincerity only possible in the female singer/songwriter environment. In a sea of Floydian tributes that usually attempt sonic reproductions, this project makes a meaningful contribution. It's okay to dislike "Echoes of Pink" for the genre, but the balanced listener should appreciate that it's good for what it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Creative, easy tribute, October 6, 2007
This review is from: Echoes of Pink: Tribute to Pink Floyd (Audio CD)
This unpretentious album is a delight. All the complexity of the Floyd we know is decompressed into a simpler world, full of its own nuances, its own new discoveries.

This is not a "sounds like Floyd" album. Why bother buying sound-alike Tribute albums when you can listen to the originals which are always so much better? But, at the core, these are our Floydian tunes, freshly done.

In addition to the great songs, this album includes a couple of the lesser known tunes: Cymbaline and Stay. The vocalists are particularly keen on style in Money, which normally is very stale in tribute albums. There is a nice effect in the rendition of Wish You Were Here.

This album has a way of being listenable over and over again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some beautiful songs here, October 18, 2004

After years of listening to the originals, it is great to hear Pink Floyd in a new light. This is a wonderful collection that includes some excellent renditions. The female vocals add a very refreshing note to the music, as Roger Waters have shown himself on his solo albums and concerts. The songs have an almost haunting quality to them, the vocalists convey the emotions skillfully, while staying true to Pink Floyd's originals. No misplaced creativity here.

'Us and Them', 'Comfortably Numb', 'Vera', 'Time', 'Run Like Hell' are wonderful versions of the originals.

'See Emily Play' though doesn't quite live up to the high standard of the rest of the album, the original is much better.

Really, a superb effort here!

At least they could have let one try her cords on The Great Gig In The Sky, and we'd know if she has a convincing moan. I'm thinkin' red-neck bar material while the boys shoot pool and the chicks discuss their next tattoo. But Pink Floyd? Please, let's just agree to be us and them!

And yes, I have about 10 different PF tribute cds, and that's counting only as one the tribute cd which has been reissued under a dozen different cover pictures. Most are well worth a decent price. If you want a "fresh" rendition, PF is one band which has produced many awesome live recordings. Try: Delicate Sound Of Thunder and Pulse and some amazing bootleg concert cds.

2.0 out of 5 stars 'Echoes Of Pink: A Tribute To Pink Floyd' (Reverberations) Various Artists, January 27, 2006
This review is from: Echoes of Pink: Tribute to Pink Floyd (Audio CD)
You GOT to be kidding with this one. It's like an easy listening tribute CD to Pink Floyd. My gosh,my grand parents may've actually enjoyed listening to this.Several of the cuts here I tried so hard to get into, but simply could NOT,were "Money" by Reyo Bikkin,"Cymbaline" performed by Maureen Mahon,"Time" by Melissa Quade and "See Emily Play" contributed from Erin Alden.Folks, female vocalists do not belong in covering Floyd songs.I'm assuming that if Gilmour,Mason,Wright or Waters ever heard this disc, they'd most likely feel somewhat insulted.Only use this CD might have is if you wish to give an older friend or loved one an(you got it!)easy listening CD as a gift.

Really nothing bad, if you want to buy a good Pink Floyd tribute album. Try also the "Pigs And Piramids: Tribute" ASIN: B00006JQUU. These are the only two Tributes that I recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars PF done differently...., September 20, 2005
This review is from: Echoes of Pink: Tribute to Pink Floyd (Audio CD)
Truley great adaptations of PF done with female vocals and accoustic guitars. Really great listening of PF tunes done with all the soul and moods of the writers. These songs should be played by someone on the radio. Expect a different slant to great tunes done very, very well.

I like this album very much. As all Pink fans know,
it is very difficult to cover Pink materials and
still sounds unique and good. Give this album a try!
