They look good (very much like suede even though they are polyester).

When my mom started working the graveyard shift, she had a lot of trouble getting to sleep during the day. After the initial 2 weeks, which is, she found out, the usual time it takes for your body to get used to the night shift schedule, she was still having problems going to sleep and staying asleep during the day.

I did research on what the best option would be for curtains that block out light, and these were the best choice. I got her the black ones because in her case she needs to have as much darkness as possible. It was amazing the moment I was replacing them how they IMMEDIATELY changed the room. It was as if it was 10 at night, when in reality, I was putting them up around 3 in the afternoon! She's been falling asleep much quicker and easier ever since I purchased these curtains.

We were also pleasantly surprised to find that they block out noise... I don't know how they do it but it works! We live in a somewhat busy street, so any little noise can be heard, and the ability to block as much of it is crucial, especially for someone like my mom.

I was so amazed that I got another set of gold-colored curtains for the living room. Not as drastic as the black ones, but they also do as good a job at blocking noise and light. It gives our living room such a private, cozy feeling. Both her bedroom and our living room have sliding glass doors, and for both we got two sets of 2 curtains. It's the ideal height and width for standard-sized glass doors.

As a side note, my mom works at a very widely known home improvement store where they sell light-blocking curtains, and even with her employee discount, it's still not as good a deal as this one! We're very happy that we got these curtains, they are very effective at what they're for and look great on any room, whatever the color!

I highly recommend this

We liked these, until it came time to wash them. We took the first ones to a professional laundry and made sure they followed the directions on the back. The backing melted in spots and fused to itself. When separated the backing pulled off some areas. We decided to wash a different set ourselves in our own machine, cold water, gentle cycle. What a mess, the backing totally disintegrated. We noted the area where the backing fell apart was mostly where the sun hit the closed curtain, but that is why we bought them; to block out sun and heat.

There are not washable as claimed. We wouldnt buy them again.

I purchased 3 of these 8 months ago. They certainly work as advertised. They block out light effectively. However, there are some concerns.

First, there is a distinctly unpleasant smell on these curtains. Even after washing, if I leave the door to my room which has all three of these closed, I can detect a distinct scent when reentering after a few hours. You don't really notice it after being in the room for a while, but every time I go back in the room, it's definitely there.

Second, my first wash of these was fine. They wrinkled a bit, but I just threw them up anyways. After using them for the past 7 months on windows which face the sun head-on for long periods of time each day (in Texas), I decided to wash them again the other day to try to get the smell out once and for all (wasn't able to.) This time however, washing in cold water on gentle cycle, the curtains were completely destroyed. The beige rubbery backing which blocks out the light stuck together, so when it was done washing, I had to pull them apart, ripping the backing off in the process. Now, my curtains look like they're some sort of poorly done animal print front the outside, and from the inside, one can see the light shining through the areas where the rubbery material came off, again presenting a sort of animal print-like pattern, except with the light.

This really is unacceptable. I washed them as per the instructions. I'm guessing the intense heat somehow changed the material's properties, but these are designed for blocking strong sunlight! Definitely not getting these again. That said, if one isn't going to be using these in harsh heat and sunlight, they might still be a good deal as there don't seem to be any other comments regarding this issue.

Prior to purchasing I had read reviews to ensure there were TWO panels in each package. Fact: There is only ONE panel per pack! Other than that great product. Tip: make sure you have sturdy curtain rod as they are pretty heavy curtains!

These are great on the black out part. Our room is very dark. I did throw them in to the washer to take the wrinkles out and had no issues there. The only complaint I have is that they seem a bit short on the width, although I have not measured them. My other curtains that were up may have been a bit wider.

I bought two of these panels in black for my bedroom. No light comes through them from street lights at night or sunlight during the day. The only problem is when they come in the package they are a little bit wrinkled but with a steamer, the wrinkles disappear.

I live on a very busy street with much traffic noise; once these curtains were up I slept soundly. Wonderful for blocking out light as well. Would purchase this product again if needed.
