My child's room has four windows, three facing east and south, so it's very sunny. We've had a makeshift patch of blinds, curtains, blankets and towels at the window for many years, trying to get his room dark enough for him to sleep well.

Finally, I had the time to research blackout curtains and bought these. I thought the navy color would work better than lighter shades, and they do. (NOTE: The photo on this page now shows a lighter blue than the curtains I bought, which are a dark navy. And mine don't go to the floor, just below the windows.) We have regular blinds behind the curtains, so in combination the blinds and curtains make the room really dark. It's a good thing the alarm clock has a light!

If you want these for sleeping during the day, I'd suggest you combine these curtains with blackout blinds or roll-up shades. But for night sleepers, these are just fine. The material is somewhat industrial-feeling, but I didn't expect silk. After you put them in the dryer for 20 min. along with a damp towel to ease the wrinkles, they feel a little softer to the touch.

Also a plus... you buy these by the panel, not the pair. We bought 9 panels: 8 for the windows and an extra one that I hemmed up to put above the a/c unit in the summer, so I can block the light when the curtains have to be open. Another good thing is that you don't need to worry about which way to hang the curtains -- the curtain is finished the same top and bottom, 3 inches of hem.

It did surprise me that there is no channel in either hem that would create a ruffle over the rod. The top of the curtain just sits on the rod. I guess you don't get fancy at this price, but if I were ambitious enough, I could simply sew a straight line through the hem to create a channel for the rod. Kind of doubt I will, though!

I bought this curtain for my daughter's room, and we love it. The color shown in the picture is exactly what you get; it a very pretty normal purple color. The purpose of it (to blackout the room) is exactly what it does. My daughters window has the sun beating on it from sun up to sun down, and no matter what time of the day if we close the curtains her room is very, very dark. I have the same brand, same style only black in my bedroom and they do not darken as good as the purple ones do. I would definitely recommend buy these. If I ever have another room that needs purple curtains these will be what I buy.

I was so disappointed in these curtains, the more the sun hit them, the more smelly the room got. My baby's room smelled like a chemical mixed with plastic, almost like that of a cheap shower curtain. It only got worse, after washing, and febreezing. Not ok for a new baby!!

I bought these for my daughter's room (21 months). They are not complete blackout, but that's a good thing or her room would be pitch black. They look nice and block out 90-95% of the light. I would buy them again. Great price!

The curtains met my expectations out of the box. They were stiff and creased but I hung them anyway hoping the wrinkles would fall out. Well, they didn't, and whats more, the rubber/ plastic coating on the back seemed to emit a horrible odor. The curtains made my daughters room smell like an old gym sock. So, I washed them in the delicate cycle with fabric softener and air dried. Smelled ok, but hung them back up and again, they stink the whole room up. Tried washing again and AGAIN (3x total) and the same result. Finally was so disgusted I called amazon because I no longer had the original packaging even though I am still in the 30 day return window. Fortunately, they are taking them back despite the lack of original packaging. Don't waste your time! These are made in China and you can tell it. Terrible quality product.

Bought the purple for my daughter's room. Noticed after a day the room stunk, and the smell got even worse after washing. These are supposed to be all polyester, so they shouldn't offgass, but they do. Not good for a child's room.

These curtains really help my son naps better and sleep later. He is so sensitive to a little light coming in through the blinds and these curtains help block it all out. Even guests that sleep in his room find themselves sleeping in because its so dark in there with the curtains closed.

I have these in my bedroom in yellow, same brand that I purchased at Target. They don't block light really in yellow either.
However the do impart a sort of glow of the curtain color in the room which is kind of neat. My bedroom glows a beautiful golden color.

As a result of not actually blocking out light they do not get 5 stars

Here's why I love these curtains. I discovered that the coating that is supposed to light block is very insulating. My bedroom was staying much cooler in the summer than my living room. I have an apt that gets HOT! No AC, so I was hanging blankets up over my windows and blinds, etc. I got these curtains and so far so good. We have had a few warm days to test them out this spring (80 degrees) and they seem to be doing a really good job and keeping the heat out while the sun is shining in my apt.

I have the turquoise and it's beautiful (if you like turquoise) When the curtains are shut I feel like I'm in a tropical sea. I have 2 84 inch panels over my sliding glass door and this 63 inch panel for the window. I did have to hem them, but that is because I am actually hanging them inside the recessed windows (apt built in the 90's) on tension rods. As a result, I didn't need a standard length. I sew and have a machine, so it wasn't a big deal.

The fabric has a sort of linen like look to it. They are very attractive. I would highly recommend these curtains.
