1.0 out of 5 stars Save your money M> S> Rain readers.
I just finished this book. July 7, 99. As an avid reader of Mary, I was tremdously disappointed in this work. The only logical reason I can see for having published again is because of the need to make a living. Certainly it was not to inpower the genral population. This book was a constant rehash for "the poor Catholic adult who is so screwed up." I am...

5.0 out of 5 stars an enjoyable, enlightening reading experience., July 5, 2000
This review is from: Eclipse (Paperback)
A prolific writer, Mary Summer Rain is well-known in metaphysical circles. Eclipse, her eighteenth book, answers questions asked by readers of her previous books. The questions are wide-ranging, from "What is prayer?" to "Will the IRS ever go away?" Summer Rain looked toward the moon when selecting the title of her book, saying that the "full moon signifies an enlightened world [and] the new moon represents the shadowed darkness of confusion and ignorance." The moon in eclipse symbolizes "the intermittent spells of forgetfulness or the clouding of the answers to life's seeming mysteries." Her intention is to provide illumination to chase away "the darkness that shadows the brilliant knowledge of the spirit's intellect." She believes that all things are interconnected, and her answers reflect her beliefs, often in a humorous way. She isn't afraid to talk about difficult subjects, such as whether or not evil is inherent in some people. Her answers are filled with practical advice, and often refer to situations in her own life. Readers will often feel as if they're sitting at the table, having a cup of tea and good chat with an old friend. Summer Rain is patient and understanding, knowing that many people are confused about how the universe works and their role in the overall scheme of things. Although the questions come from those who have read her previous books, readers new to Summer Rain will find Eclipse an enjoyable and enlightening experience. Her earlier fans will find her as delightful and forthright as always.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thought Provoking - A Worthwhile Investment of Time & Money, September 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Eclipse (Paperback)
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Mary has continued where she left off with Daybreak, culling through thousands of reader letters to answer those that had not yet been dealt with or were so important as to warrant repetition. But these answers are not pablum being spoon fed to the reader. They detail Mary's logical and concise method of looking at a question and then (miracle of miracles!) encourage the reader to THINK FOR HERSELF! There are some contraversial issues discussed in the book and Mary does not pull any punches in calling a spade a spade. But she is clear about what is her own opinion - and the last time I looked, this is the US where one's right to express an opinion is sacrosanct. "Poor me Ex-Catholic?" Excuse me, but I couldn't help but laugh at that one! My impression from Eclipse (as well as ALL of her other books) is that Mary is about as far from any kind of "poor me" attitude as is humanly possible. The themes of Unconditional Goodness, Love and Tolerance are the warp threads of Eclipse and I find it curious as to how anyone could find fault with that. Read this book and then take the time to truly contemplate the issues and ideas Mary brings forth. It is well worth your investment of money, time and energy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding, October 20, 1999

This review is from: Eclipse (Paperback)
This is one of Mary Summer Rains best yet. Very thought provoking. Pushes the reader to research and learn all they can about the subjects. As usual, Mary is not afraid to talk about the Truth in a direct way not holding back because of assumtions or the publics general view. A "must" book for those seeking the Truth.

This review is from: Eclipse (Paperback)
Eclipse is one of those books that is so full of information that it becomes a reference manual! There are questions and answers in this book, that many authors are reluctant to touch, yet Mary Summer Rain matter-of-factly poses the questions and the answers to many of life's most difficult questions. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for answers to the spiritual questions that are left untouched in the status-quo books that are confined to limited thinking. If you have an open mind--or are willing to question things--this is a book that will stretch your imagination!!! And expand your awareness!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mary Summer Rain's best writing, December 23, 2007

This review is from: Eclipse (Paperback)
This is my favorite of all of Mary's books, although the No-Eyes series is a close second. Mary seems to open up about a lot of subjects in this book, particularly women's issues, feminine wisdom, and the history of the feminine devine. A must read!

The only logical reason I can see for having published again is because of the need to make a living. Certainly it was not to inpower the genral population. This book was a constant rehash for "the poor Catholic adult who is so screwed up." I am sorry and I do have empthy for their understandable state. However, she insults both them and her general readers by repeating the same questions and answers, over, and over...and over. I really have to question her mental condition at this point. After slaming Conversations with God Author in her previous work, this makes me rethink just what is her point? I congratulate Hampton Roads for sticking by their authors, but really!

1.0 out of 5 stars Extremely dissapointing, November 2, 1999
By
Cynthia (New England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Eclipse (Paperback)
I bought this book the minute it was available, and read the entire thing the day I got it: what a tremendous let-down. I think it was the most redundant book I have ever read (and I have read hundreds). It easily could have been cut to half, or maybe even a third of its size without losing anything. Also, it was annoying that the questions were not organized like they were in Daybreak. Finally, while I might have made an incorrect assumption, it seemed that some of her responses were graphic descriptions of some of the final "bad times" with Bill (but not identified as such), even though when she was specifically asked to describe what happened, she refused (in order to protect her daughters). I own all of Mary's books and have read each of them several times; but I doubt that I'd ever have the patience or interest to get through this one again.
