5.0 out of 5 stars Good choices can look good, too!
Kudos to Ms. Tanqueray for such a lovely book. Finally, someone to tell the world that ecologically-friendly and fashionable do not need to be mutually exclusive!
It's not earth shattering (no pun intended) information, but is presented in a way that a whole new audience will be receptive to it. Shouldn't we applaud the fact that for *once* the fashionable choice...

There just might be hope for the planet, as "living an eco-friendly lifestyle has at last become hip." So says former Deputy Editor of Elle Decoration, Rebecca Tanqueray, the author of this book. But after reading Eco Chic, I am a bit skeptical. If the future of the planet is reduced to a "trendy option" or "the latest word in style," we - and all the other species on this planet - are in a lot of trouble. If you are serious about embracing green causes (permaculture, organic farming, natural building, green technology, etc.) there are many, many, many other books that address these issues in DEPTH, without all the glossy cataloguesque photos and Martha Stewart prose (see my reviews for more info). With this book, Tanquery has achieved what was hitherto unimaginable: She put ecology on the catwalk.

Bad ecology for all the wrong reasons.

j.w.k.

It's not earth shattering (no pun intended) information, but is presented in a way that a whole new audience will be receptive to it. Shouldn't we applaud the fact that for *once* the fashionable choice is the *RIGHT* choice, instead of demonizing the author for not being a "purist"? In this instance, the motives do not supercede the actions. No matter what the reason, the ideas she is promoting are healthy and socially responsible. Ms. Tanqueray has written a book that will allow people to view an "alternative" lifestyle as a little more like their own. It's about time!

1.0 out of 5 stars What a disappointment, November 21, 2005
This review is from: Eco Chic: Organic Living (Hardcover)
This book reduces an important movement to a mere fad. I should have known better. What can a NY editor trapped in Manhattan know about real organic living? I was stupid to have bought this book in the first place.
