I wanted to share my thoughts on this product because I feel that it has been unfairly reviewed by many others. I read every single online review I could find on this heater before purchasing. Ultimately, I purchased the 250 watt model (#110250) to take the edge off a poorly insulated 11x9 bedroom. Since the 250 watt version isn't available from Amazon, I am posting this review under the 400 watt version. When reading the reviews, I didn't like that fact that many of them gave one star without even using the product (for example, the unit arrived cracked or was hotter to the touch than they expected). My main concern was that lots of folks were reporting that the units developed cracks over time. I contacted the manufacturer twice by email about this. Both times they responded within 24 hours with helpful answers. Their website states the following: "ECO-heaters (models NA400S, 110400, 110250) have recently been redesigned and are now made from a calcium silicate ceramic that is more resistant to cracking than the previous fiber cement. The heating element is now encased in fiberglass." In looking back at the dates and models of the reviews reporting cracking, most of them were older models. My unit arrived in good shape and I have been using it for 2 months with no cracks. Hopefully, they have fixed this problem because I am very pleased with the performance of this heater. I think that many people who reviewed it negatively had unrealistic expectations when it came to the heat output. A heater with such low wattage is not going to be able to heat as big a room as hot or as fast as a 1500 watt space heater with a fan. This heater is designed to be left on all the time and provide a slow, steady, and silent source of heat, which it does.Read more ›

Originally bought this for my newborn's room and worked great! Never have to worry about fire or actual burns with this, it is hot to the touch but not really enough to burn your hand. Now I have it in my office and it works great. You are supposed to install this on an internal wall (because its cold outside of an external wall making it work harder) but the only wall I have in here is a wall to the outside but it still works just fine. Wish I had one in every room of my house. Only downfall is it does't move the air around the bottom 2-3 feet of the room so wear slippers or run a small desk fan to circulate the air. Also if you leave this on you don't have to worry about burning your house down or using more than 400 watts.

You must understand how RADIANT heaters work vs. forced air (fan) heaters.

Radiant heaters do no waste energy heating the volume of air in a room and circulate it. It takes a tremendous amount of energy to heat the air space in a room.
Radiant heaters heat the objects in front of them, not air. The temperature in the room can remain 68 degrees and you can feel perfectly comfortable in front of a radiant heater. They also do not get "hot" enough to cause immediate burns like a fireplace or electric room heaters.

A small under desk panel for leg warmth ( 175 watts or so) will not do the job of a area heater (400 watts +) sometimes several are needed to cover a large area.

People denigrating the radiant heater performance have probably not researched and have misguided expectations. They probably want an electric room heater with a fan.
Radiant heating panels are the most energy efficient heating for comfort available.

i have 13 of these heaters through out my home for the past 5 winters........not one is cracked..we leave them on pretty much all winter...only if it gets really cold does our furnace kick on...one switch broke due to repeatedly having kids and a husband kick it off with their foot when they got too warm... another was broken by a contractor when he removed it from the wall to replace it when he was putting built in shelves on the wall we originally placed. most are on interior wall..but a few are on well insulated exterior walls..our house is 100 years old and these heaters made it much warmer than our new furnace and duct work..will leave heaters when we sell and i will never live in a house with out these

I bought one of these last winter; I live in Portland and my house has oil heat, so I wanted something that would keep my room warm enough and allow me to turn off the heater when I went to bed. This works perfect for that use. It is not a space heater, it's an energy efficient radiant wall heater, and they aren't designed to quickly heat a room, they're designed to keep a room warm or slowly bring the temperature up with a small amount of electricity (for a heater).

I've had zero problems with mine and love it; I just turn it on about 15 minutes before I go to bed and done, my room stays warm while the main heater is off all night. I'm seriously debating buying a couple more for other rooms in the house.

I originally bought one for my newborn daughter's room to help warm up the room through the winter. It works really well, especially if you pair it with the recommended thermostat. Well she's 2 1/2 now and we've since moved from that house. We brought this heater with us and reinstalled in her new room. It works just as well in the new space, and we bought a second one for our son's room. The key is to mount it on an interior wall, and to close the door to the room if possible. The children's rooms are significantly warmer when the doors are kept closed. We found it to be a great way to lower the heat at night, but not freeze out the kids.
