Review

Debra Duneier gets it! A wise and wonderful compilation of the essentials for our personal, work and public spaces. From hotels, to corporate spaces, to one's living room, her insights into how EcoChi contributes to a fuller, healthier life works. You must read this book! Cary Broussard Former VP Marketing Wyndam Hotels --From Cinderella to CEO

The EcoChi system is for everyone!!! It doesn't matter if you are or are not a spiritual person, we should all strive to improve our lives. The EcoChi system gives practical advice and real life examples how to do so. For example, the Stay Maybe Go system was especially helpful when de-cluttering my closet (I feel so libertated). I'm also sleeping better because I de-electrified my bedroom. I've truly re-designed my human experience. . . Frank G. --Amazon Reviews

In the world of green design, everybody brings something to the table. Some people arrive with a primary concern about chemicals and other pollutants in our homes and workplaces. Others are motivated by a love of the natural world and a desire to preserve it. Still others hope to find a spiritual and life changing aspect to sustainability, which is where the book EcoChi: Designing the Human Experience fits in. Guided by changes in her own life, Debra Duneier has created a business and now a book around her idea of EcoChi, a marriage of sustainable design and Feng Shui principles. Starting with how she found herself in business as a Feng Shui consultant, and began integrating aspects of an eco-friendly lifestyle in her design, Duneier then takes us through a series of illustrative examples of clients and how she arrived at beneficial solutions to their design problems, using her trademarked EcoChi system. --InteriorRevolution Book Reveiw

Author Debra Duneier explains the system of EcoChi and how it can bring harmony and prosperity to you life in addition to creating a life that is green and sustainable.

Duneier explains that EcoChi is the fusion of three different systems: classical Feng shui, green and sustainable living and environmental psychology. Duneier shows us through her personal stories, how she began to make the connection between good and bad things happening in her life with how the `chi' or energy flowed in her body and her house.

Duneier's blocked chi was manifesting in her shoulder. When she went to visit the acupuncturist in New York's Chinatown, he asked her "Where are you stuck?" Duneier reexamined her life and realized she was stuck with all the clutter she had accumulated over the years and began her process of clearing the clutter, which cleared the energy and moved her forward towards further investigating the art of Feng shui and developing the EcoChi system.

Duneier explains the three elements of EcoChi. First is classical Feng shui, a system that teaches how to best balance the energies from Heaven, Earth and Humanity in order to create a life with good energy or "sheng chi". Duneier explains that the second element, the Green and Sustainable factor in the EcoChi system is about making lifestyle choices that protect the environment and sustain its resources for future generations, such as maintaining indoor environmental quality and being energy efficient. Finally, the third aspect of EcoChi is the Environmental Psychology, which Duneier describes as the "fascinating, interdisciplinary science focused on fostering a greater understanding of the interplay between human beings and their environments.

Debra's book was one of those that once I started, I just kept reading. I am not sure why it grabbed me so quickly but it did. For one thing, I love Debra's vast & diverse background. It's not every day that you can pick up a book and find that the author was trained by a Fung Shui Master AND is a LEED certified Green Associate. Debra seems to effortlessly combine the practical with the spirtual aspects of life. I started making changes in my office the day I read the book. Since then, there have been measurable changes in my business & I know that they are directly related to the "clearing" I have done to create space for new experiences in my journey as a global leader in sustainability. I keep Debra's book close by, have bought numerous copies for people who are important to me & I highly recommend it for anyone looking to take charge of designing their human experience.

When we look at designing sustainable buildings and spaces in a modern context, we often look at design paradigms like LEED (Leadership in Energy Efficient Design) as a means of lowering the human impact on the environment. While there may be some consideration of human health effects in the building materials selected, there are still number of human variables which remain unaccounted for. These variables extended beyond human physical well-being and into areas such as emotional, psychological, and spiritual well-being. A superficial glance at building practices today might reveal some strides in these areas, but author Debra Duneier encourages readers to look deeper into how we organize our spaces in order to maximize the human experience.

EcoChi, the system articulated by Duneier is "a lifestyle shift that meticulously blends the powerful ancient and modern lessons of classical feng shui, green and sustainable living and environmental psychology to revolutionize how people feel when they are living in a building." Simply put, we spend a large majority of our time in buildings. It is important that these buildings not only accommodate our daily necessities, but that they exist in a manner that is psychologically uplifting and beneficial (rather than detrimental) to our well-being.

Duneier does an excellent job of conveying the holistic manner of examining indoor space embodied within EcoChi. Each chapter opens with a personal narrative about how she has put her techniques to work and how those techniques have improved the lives of her clients. Duneier explores each concept with a level of depth that provides the reader with a solid understanding while at the same time avoiding excessive detail.

I loved Debra's book. It's beautifully designed and feels good in my hands. The stories are inspiring and informative. I loved the stories about uncluttering the office to increase prosperity, using feng shui to find true love, and performing clearing rituals to help the grieving process. It's a good reminder that if you're stuck in one area of your life, you can change it by clearing out your environment. I was inspired by Debra's insights about people and how she helped them change their lives.
