Ruined My Beautiful Garden, Bugs Survived,
By EK (Waterford, Michigan United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: EcoSMART 33115 Organic Insect Killer Ready to Spray, 32-Ounce (Lawn & Patio)
Trying to be responsible, I purchased the EcoSmart at a local mass-market merchant to reduce garden pests. I sprayed at dusk when the sun was not so hot and to to avoid possible foliage damage. I was trying to spray just the ground, but the sub-par spray nozzel shoots every which way. I am no a rookie at this, I have been gardening for years. The next day EVERY SINGLE PLANT HAD BROWN AND WHITE MAKRS ALL OVER THE LEAVES. Some were just laying on the ground. My gorgeous garden WAS RUINED WITH JUST ONE LIGHT APPLICATION. I tried rinsing all the plants individually that morning and several times thereafter. NO luck. It ruined the butterfly bush, it ruined the coneflowers, it ruined the basil, it ruined the parsley, it ruined the dill, it ruined the cilantro, it ruined the coral bells, it ruined the lillies, it runined the impatience, it ruined the hostas, it ruined the lambs' ear, it ruined the spiderwort, it ruined the vinca, it ruined the hydrangeas, it ruined the petunias, it ruined the phlox, it ruined the hollyhocks and the cosmos...need I go on? Hundreds if not thousands of dollars worth of plants and hard work ruined with one application. I didn't even use half the bottle on my 2000 sq. ft. garden. Repeated calls to customer service...messages left as they DO NOT ANSWER THEIR PHONES EVER.... states they will get back to you in 48 hours. HAHAHAH. Still waiting. Meanwhile, my garden looks like a wall of locust came through. Wish I could give negative stars for the product AND for the customer service. And for the record, it smells a lot like citronella to me. So if you want something that lets bugs live and turns your garden to a whithering embarassment, then EcoSmart is for you. Also, I read and re-read the label and NOWHERE DOES IT SAY IT DAMAGES PLANTS.... this makes me pretty sure their claims about being safe for kids and pets is also totally bogus.

Works GREAT! Strong Incense Like Smell So I Did One Room Every Couple Days,
By Christy "The Manic Crafter" (Jacksonville, FL) - See all my reviews
This review is from: EcoSMART 33115 Organic Insect Killer Ready to Spray, 32-Ounce (Lawn & Patio)
I have the 64 oz bottle myself but wow, this stuff is beyond fantastic and I'm not just saying that either. EcoSmart really works! We had gotten of all things roaches thanks to my next door neighbors and nothing was working and lets face it professional pest control can be an expensive luxury.
I had tried for over 8 months to get the little roaches and the occasional Spinybacked Orbweaver gone and while other products like Raid and Combat do in fact lesson the problem I would still see the occasional creepy crawler. To be honest I was at my wits end because I didn't want to put any more poison in my house because I have 3 children, 1 dog, and 2 ferrets. It doesn't matter how clean your house is if you have bugs in the neighborhood you're house is at risk too especially since the ones here in Florida can fly right in the door when you're bringing in the groceries or whatnot. Anyway, I had heard about eugenol oil on that Billy The Exterminator show and found a post by Heather who works with Vexcon and she recommended the EcoSmart product. I'll have to be sure to drop her a thank you note! The smell of this is like walking into the incense section at a store, not unpleasant but a bit overwhelming so to solve the problem of too much smell I took the time to just spray one room every couple days that way my house isn't overwhelmed.

I just moved this year into a place in the woods and forgot how many bugs there could be in the house. This worked as a foundation spray that cut down the amount of bugs getting in the house. It says it lasts through rains and it does. I've sprayed only twice this year (but we've had record rainfall in WI this year). It doesn't work with mosquitos, so I had to add a fog for that. It did eliminate earwigs, ants, most spiders, beetles, millipedes, etc.
I saw that someone used this ON their plants - I almost did that too, but it didn't sound like I should do that based on the label directions. The same brand makes another product for that labelled "Garden Insect Killer". Some of the ingredients are similar, but the garden insect killer is a pump spray and has only plant oils in it, where this one has a few other ingredients and is a spray that attaches to a garden hose (more concentrated). The garden one works well but has to be reapplied more often (than other sprays I have used) due to watering. But I had to spray something on my basil this year and this was the only product that I could spray directly on something I would be eating later. Works well too.

Interesting product...,

I bought a banana plant off of Amazon. After about 1-2 months, I noticed aphids on the plant so I bought this product to kill the aphids. I sprayed the plant in the evening. By morning, the aphids were dead. That's the good news. The bad news is that it also killed two of the leaves on the banana plant. I wasn't terribly bummed out about this because I needed to eventualy cut those leaves anyways. With that said, it seems like the product should not be affecting the plant in any way...or at least there should be some warning.

Kills Fleas Dead,
This review is from: EcoSMART 33115 Organic Insect Killer Ready to Spray, 32-Ounce (Lawn & Patio)
Recently had a serious Flea infestation in our yard (grrr... possums...), and this spray took care of them fast. At one point they were so bad I could gather a new flea for every step I took... but after I was finished spraying, I didn't have any fleas on me, they had all died... or maybe it was the very VERY unique smell of this product that drove them away.
One way or another, our yard is cleared of fleas, my wife and pets are happy, and I can sleep at night. The one thing I could complain about is that I could barely cover 1000 sq ft per bottle... but that might have been because I put it on extra thick... Double up when you're buying it... it's worth it to be certain you're killing them all. Haven't seen any negative effects on our grass.. and the dandelions certainly don't seem to be phased by it. Be smart about how you're using it... If you really care about what you're spraying, test it out on a small piece before hosing everything down.... common sense, people. (really, it could have killed every green thing in my lawn, and I'd have been happy as long as it got the fleas)

Japanese Beetles LOVE this product.....I HATE this product,
By Suzi (St Louis, MO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: EcoSMART 33115 Organic Insect Killer Ready to Spray, 32-Ounce (Lawn & Patio)
This product is AWFUL! We had a swarm of Japanese Beetles eating away at our garden, and purchased EcoSMART insect killer to get rid of them. We applied it to all the plants and even sprayed the lawn with it, in hope that it would discourage the beetles from comming back. To our surpise it had the opposite effect!!! The beetles loved the stuff, the ammount of beetles in our yard trippled after applying it!! Went back out and bought Seven instead, the beetles are now gone... Dont waste your money on EcoSMART

Killed my corn and sqaush!!,
By
This review is from: EcoSMART 33115 Organic Insect Killer Ready to Spray, 32-Ounce (Lawn & Patio)
I compost, recycle, reduce, reuse, buy recycled products, use flourescent bulbs and will be trying to install solar panels soon. Not a granola, just trying to be responsible about my life. So, the next logical step in my garden would be to stop using sevin dust and use an ecologoically responsible pesticide. Well, I am going back to sevin dust. My beautiful garden was destroyed overnight. My hubby sprayed this "pesticide" to my corn, squash, sweet potatoes, watermelon, and pumpkins. Woke up this morning and my corns are laying on the ground. No rain last night, so they were not blown over. Went to take a look and the corn has yellow stalks right from the middle down. Exactly where the insecticide instructed us to spray. The pumpkins have splashes of yellow where the insecticide landed on the leaves, the squash leaves are laying flat on the ground instead of springing gaily from the stalks witht he same yellow splashes. The last 6 weeks of work was for naught. Will be contacting the company and banging my head on a corporate beauracy for naught also. BTW, found a beautiful, healthy caterpillar laying next to a corn stalk. Looks like something survived...

Kills bees on contact,

Works great! Home Depot sells Ecosmart products. We use to use Best Yet (has a strong cedar smell and at 29.00 a bottle was too expensive) but Ecosmart is a lot cheaper and works just as good if not better. It is safe around children and pets that is why we tried it. We use the Ecosmart spray outside, in the garage and on the porch only. When you spray a bee with Ecosmart it's died the moment the spray hits it. JUST DON'T SPRAY IT INSIDE or you will have to leave your house for a while. Has a strong cinnamon smell. It smells great outside. We also use the Ecosmart granules for lawns for fire ants and chinch bugs. Works great and it's pet friendly. Also organic which means a lot to me. I personally don't mind the smell it's a strong cinnamon smell, if you use the spray inside just don't spray too much. It's like a strong air freshener. With the granules if you use them for fire ants you have to put 2 applications and the ants are gone and never return. It rained after so I don't know if that helped the problem but they are gone.

Worthless product.,
This review is from: EcoSMART 33115 Organic Insect Killer Ready to Spray, 32-Ounce (Lawn & Patio)
I had high hopes for this organic solution, but found it to be incredibly ineffective. After using the spray on several different insects (sawflies, slugs, spiders, ants, etc.), I haven't noticed any sort of decrease in their populations. Your money is better spent elsewhere.

Disgusting!!!! @#$%$#@#$,
This review is from: EcoSMART 33115 Organic Insect Killer Ready to Spray, 32-Ounce (Lawn & Patio)
I bought this because it was recommended on the Internet as safe, effective, natural. We sprayed 3 days ago and the smell is still here. We have scrubbed with vinegar, soap, various cleaners, sprinkled baking soda and coffee grounds, and sprayed Febreeze like crazy. I have to say it is getting better, but it's still so strong I don't want to eat any food in my house let alone put it back in my cupboards. Yuck!! It's in my mouth and I can taste it. We have the doors and windows open AND the fan (and the heater on because it's cold!) going 24/7 but it's still there! Are you kidding me?!?
I contacted the company via email and they sent me their odor reducing protocol. Hmmm, so obviously they know this is a problem. They also said they have re-formulated the product to reduce the initial and lingering fragrance and it will be out next year. Again, they must be aware this is a problem. Not soon enough for me. Meanwhile, all these other unsuspecting people are purchasing this product. There is also currently no warning on the label about the lingering smell, using in a ventilated area, or to use sparingly. I just got off the phone with their customer service rep. He told me they use it in the office as air freshener! What?!? Seriously? So glad I don't work there. Reportedly some people like the smell. Ok, but the majority of reviews I see on here say the opposite. If you decide to try it, just use a tiny bit and then maybe wait a day or two and make sure you absolutely LOVE it before you spray any more. Otherwise you are stuck with it for days..... |
