More About the Author

Charlene Hosenfeld is a psychologist by profession and an environmentalist by persuasion. She received her Ph.D. in counseling from Ohio University. Her passion is for nurturing life on Earth, both through psychological practice and through being active in environmental organizations that serve both congregations and the larger community.

Dr. Hosenfeld was invited to attend training offered by The Climate Project (www.theclimateproject.org) in October 2008 and was personally trained by Former Vice-President Al Gore to educate others about the climate crisis and potential solutions. She offers community presentations based on Mr. Gore's Academy Award-winning film, An Inconvenient Truth.

Eco-Faith: Creating & Sustaining Green Congregations (The Pilgrim Press, 2009), Dr. Hosenfeld's most recent book, is a culmination of several years of work; it blends psychological, theological and ecological issues, and is a guide for church leaders, congregations and individuals to help facilitate understanding of these interconnected issues as they relate to caring for God's green and blue Earth. Her purpose in writing the book was to spur action vital to the care and restoration of the planet, and her hope is that Eco-Faith will create a groundswell of environmental stewardships actions initiated and supported by faith communities.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Considerate Thing to Do, December 10, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ecofaith: Creating and Sustaining Green Congregations (Paperback)
In Charlene Hosenfeld's Eco-Faith, environmental stewardship is as much a moral issue, as a political, social, and ecological issue. Individually, or acting within a community or congregation, this manual is a great resource for taking steps--baby or more generous, to becoming caregivers of our world. I enjoyed the thoughtfully organized, concise, and easy to follow layout of the book. It's chock full of helpful suggestions & resources that do not leave the reader feeling overwhelmed but rather excited and hopeful. In understanding the interconnected of environmental responsibility, religious faith and psychological well-being, it becomes clear that becoming green (or greener) is the considerate thing to do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy And Practical Way To Go Green, July 30, 2009

This review is from: Ecofaith: Creating and Sustaining Green Congregations (Paperback)
This book could not be more timely in making the necessary moves to keep God's earth green. It is well-organized and easy for congregations, or anyone for that matter, to follow. More information is presented through many links to web and print resources. My family is already making changes and using the book as a guide to conserving the earth.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Practical Handbook for Going Green, September 19, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ecofaith: Creating and Sustaining Green Congregations (Paperback)
It is an encyclopedic source for ideas in conservation and treating our planet as sacred grounds. All congregational leaders need to read the book and review their use of energy and conservation of natural resources. Small study groups could use the book for raising member awareness. Individuals will find the book a handy reference for making daily changes in their use of resources.
