Product Description

The Ecolight introduces clean, green supercapacitor technology! Supercapacitors replace batteries, allowing for virtually unlimited numbers of recharges, with an ultra-fast charge - only about 4 minutes with the AC or car charger (or just over an hour with the solar panel). The AC charger is a charge cord that plugs into a computer's USB port and also works with other chargers with a USB port (iPod, iPhone, & other cell phone chargers with USB ports). The powerful 1-Watt LED's focused beam will illuminate objects at over 100 feet, and at 50 lumens it's even brighter than many traditional flashlights. Its light duration is 45 minutes on high, or 4 hours on low per charge. It is lightweight (supercapacitors are 1/3 the weight of batteries) and has no toxic components, the entire device is RoHS-compliant (an international law covering all electronics passed by the European Union in 2006). The Ecolight compares well with some of the best flashlights in terms of brightness and burn-time performance. As a hand-held flashlight it can meet or exceed all of your portable lighting needs while at the same time fulfilling your needs for convenience of the "lightning-fast" charge and the peace of mind of never having to worry about batteries or bulbs ever again. In addition, it can be kept fully charged without even relying upon a charger. Simply place it where it will get a little light on its solar panel. Supercapacitors store electricity without a chemical reaction and the ones we use are made of non-toxic material. Typical rechargeable batteries can be recharged 100 - 1000 times before they are depleted and often take hours to charge. Virtually all flashlights (including the wind-up and solar charged flashlights) on the market use either regular batteries or rechargeable batteries made of toxic components. AC charge cord and lanyard included. A car charger can be ordered as an accessory from our site at www.eco-light dot com

The Ecolight uses SuperCap or UltraCap capacitors to hold a charge rather than rechargeable batteries. It can be charged using the supplied USB cable plugged into a PC or USB charger or placed in direct sunlight. Mine did not come with the 12v car lighter USB charger. I believe this is an optional item.

After discharging mine at full brightness, I placed the Ecolight in the morning sun for an hour and sure enough, the Ecolight lasted about 45-minutes on the high brightness setting.

The Ecolight is very lightweight and appears to be well built except for possibly the dual position power switch. You turn the switch counter clockwise for full brightness, center for OFF, and clockwise for low brightness. The switch feels a little lose and flimsy but only time will tell if it will last.

Overall I'm pretty impressed with this battery-less flashlight!
