Ecological Calendar -- Engagement/desk version,
By Judy (La Jolla, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Ecological 2007 Calendar: A New Way To Experience Time (Calendar)
This calendar is an amazing find. It is unique in its approach to the world around us, and the art is colorful, detailed, and beautifully rendered. Each page conveys interesting information--depicted in text and grahics--and all of it is scientifically accurate. Whimsy is added by assigning new names to the months and days, but these names are fun and poetic and stimulate the imagination (and they do not delve into astrology or other new age terminology). If you take a moment to orient yourself to the format you'll see that it's easy to see that the day called "Pumpkin Gourd" in the month of "Shadow" is actually Wednesday, October 31. But you'll also be reminded that within that week Mars and the Moon appear together one morning, that Cassiopeia is prominent in the sky, that squirrels begin creating "larder hoards," that the settling dew greets the colder temperatures by forming the first frosts, what the tides are doing and more. I will love working my way through the year with this calendar keeping me more in touch on a daily basis with the natural world around me. Obviously, I love this calendar!

This calendar is an excellent mirror of the Ecological Wall Calendar, with image shots and explanations of natural cycles for every week. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a bit of organization and doesn't mind stepping out of their normal comfort zone of the normal days, holidays, months, time chages, etc.
It would rate a 5 for me except that I could not get this product new from the publisher when I ordered it at the end of the year. I saw it available used when I finally decided to cancel three months later (a great experience, btw - thank you, wellreadtom). I also placed a different order with them directly for something not carried by Amazon, and the service was pretty much the same. Anyway, I suggest getting this calendar in either format for the years ahead - just order early!

Never got the product,

I ordered the desk calendar on New Year's Eve. This is Jan. 31 and I cancelled the order since it's been delayed again (2nd delay). I'm sure it's very nice, but since it is a calendar, I would have liked it by now. I guess it's popular, so that's good.
Maybe next year. |
