I would recommend this book to anyone if they want to be transported to the Everglades from the eyes and ears of someone who quite obviously has a passion for the place. I did not want to put this book down, and I don't say that often- just amazing!

Beyond nature to depth, soul and sustenance,

If only I could give 17 stars ... This isn't ONLY for nature lovers; this is highly crafted poetry in deceptively simple terms. These poems go deep in a spiritual and soulful sense, and this is from someone who is pretty much an indoor poet. Read "Holding On" and see if you don't find it a breathtaking metaphor for divorce, or war, or other dire oppositions. You will come back again and again to these poems -- and they will keep giving to you.

Ecology II: Throat Song from the Everglades,
This review is from: Ecology II: Throat Song from the Everglades (Paperback)
In the spirit of Marjory Stoneman Douglas, Sullivan writes with both passion and scientific accuracy. Her poetry opens a window onto the subtlety and richness of the Everglades. Recommended for people who already love the Glades as well as for those who wish to learn more about the nature of this "river of grass."

A Gift for City-Bound Naturalists,

This review is from: Ecology II: Throat Song from the Everglades (Paperback)
This is book is a genuine gift for would-be naturalists who wish they could spend hours each week (year after year) observing and studying the always astonishing spectacle of wildlife in its natural environment. Sullivan has spent those hours (and years) for us and captured, in exquisite detail, countless unforgettable moments (and images) that we missed while we were working in our offices or commuting to and from work. But the book is not only a gift. It is also a deeply-felt invitation to spend more time outside and to appreciate the world we co-inhabit with so many other fascinating and complex creatures.
