Good book - but not for my speciality,

A good book but I have passed this text onto another grad student. Much of this text refers to large macro ecosystems - forests and such. I was seeking something more appropriate to a smaller yet equally important scale - microbial stuff, lichens, mosses etc. Again good book - but for very large ecosystems.
