5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! What a way to learn economics!, May 25, 1996
By A Customer
This review is from: Econ 101 1 2 (Paperback)
A great way to learn economics! How much money did the United States really borrow for the Louisiana Purchase and why have we been borrowing ever since? Why do people believe that dollar bills (just pieces of green paper) have value? How are Eli Whitney and Bill Gates similar? The answers to these questions and many more are given by Elaine Schwartz in Econ 101 1/2. Focusing on one economic area in each chapter, Schwartz uses entertaining stories and anecdotes to explain how the U.S. economy works. As one reviewer said, "To mere mortals who managed to make it through Economics 101 and 102 with a glimmering of comprehension, Elaine Schwartz has performed a miracle: she has made the subject understandable, interesting, and even amusing."

5.0 out of 5 stars A "MUST READ" FOR ALL AMERICANS, September 29, 2008
By
This review is from: Econ 101 1 2 (Paperback)
Outstanding book about the backbone of the United States: it's economy. Today is part of the era of the failing U.S. banks and credit crisis. This book should be issued to each American as part of the 2008 Federal Government's Troubled Assets Congressional Bill (Proposed Financial Rescue Plan). I believe that most Americans would change their negative view about our economy if they read and understood the contents of this book. Yes, there are more than 400 pages to read and understand, but you cannot get anymore basic about the United States economy unless you make a children's cartoon book. The U.S. Government should be promoting this book to the general public - the same as they do when they promote other media. I recommend this book to all the American public, especially if they don't do anything in their life except lay on the couch and watch sports all day. What more great things can I say about this book???

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good, May 31, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Econ 101 1 2 (Paperback)
from what I have read so far, it is pretty good. I have read one chapter. I thought it was going to be in a more text book format. This is just a book about economy in a story like fashion. Four
